Well @Keith Black how does that saying go haste makes waste , well I am not happy with the waterline.  So I am going to sanded it down and try again. Eazy pezy.lol. 20240820_140202.thumb.jpg.860ca8a9b2fb40ba600088c1c6ee6c9e.jpg

I painted  a few things, primed some other  parts as well.20240821_120143.thumb.jpg.4bef64b0a0711f60704b083f41f9d8ae.jpg

I kinda jumped ahead, just needs sanding  and final clear coat. I received my gold paint today,  I like it. Should look good.

I also wanted to do the horse shoe plates and the Fish plates .

20240821_140624.thumb.jpg.92d428000e84664f38e8bb332d62d522.jpg

It went well up until I was all ready to glue it together,  glue applied, clamp ready, go.

That's when I tipped over the jar I keep my shelac brush in when not in use. All over the place. To make a long story short,  4hrs later I am done for the day lol. Maybe  just a nap 😴.  It went everywhere,  I jump up got some rags , clean up and took stock of what was missing  😳. I found the half of the horse shoe the fish plates took 90 minutes to locate.  Went for a walk cleaned my head and started again. Ready to go,  would you not know it this time I slammed the horse shoe in all nails in place , only to inbed them in my thumb 😑.  Blood drops on the model, I jump up and lose the horse shoe again. Minor prick of the thumb but it made me jump lol. Now the hunt was on, 2 hrs, and when I found it it some how got damaged.  So I faked it.20240821_140659.thumb.jpg.48b4c577d10c6c26cacbdc8e4f6e21d1.jpg

I glued what I could,  then paint. It is on the wall side of the ship and won't be seen by any one. Good to go, repaint  the water line.20240821_141059.thumb.jpg.d8896dd4a538d678dab3e1177662ad7a.jpg

20240821_141906.thumb.jpg.a54476d915f029862d705849861db759.jpg

I broke off a couple of peices from the widow  as well I found them so I can glue them on later.20240821_155549.thumb.jpg.9b2d791b849aa13a8e0856fdb21f86bf.jpg

So a bit down about the paint line and the spill. But Pile says it only paint and wood , sand and repeat. Lol.  So time for this old neanderthal to paint the stern decoration.  So knowing that I will repaint the hull, I can fix a few more holes. But later, now I am going to do all that I can at the stren install the rudder , more Research  .

This model is incredible, I am over joyed, that's why I don't mined repainting the waterline  ,it can look better.  Do over lol.:D.

Thanks for peeking. And the likes.

I remember a comment from someone when I first joined this forum regarding screwups.  I don't remember the exact words nor who it was that made the comment, but the gist of it was, "Don't spend too much time worrying about your mistakes.  It's wood.  It can be fixed."  And yours is just the latest example.

Keep your head up and keep moving forward, Bob!

Thank you very much my friends. @Bryan Woods I have to laugh lots now cus I won't remember later lol. There is nothing  like doing something that looks good from my perspective. To cheer you up.:).20240821_194815.thumb.jpg.9c922f94103d34a6a771495c957237e2.jpg

This is not painting, it's artist brush work. Big difference lol .But Pile likes it, :). 20240821_195309.thumb.jpg.2b3b6037fcae1d2f1858b25f0963748e.jpg

I did my best ,mines the one on the top. LOL. I had to look real close to make sure I didn't miss a leg or an arm. After a few passes I was happy.  So I varnished it with clear flat Poly.

When you see them up close big difference,  I am old and shakey but I like it. Made the rudder, but it needs work and painting.20240822_135407.thumb.jpg.ae18d16f4bd2e88ccc9f4c8fef63a28d.jpg

This is the colour of the freezing, I tryed to match the gold, close enough for me, but I do let a lot go, It will do, on to the port side , I better get a sweater 😀

And thanks  to all moderators who look after me lol. And for all MSW for all the help, I thought modeling was fantastic before now that I am building a great kit, it's awesome.

Mississippi diorama, what Mississippi diorama,  lol. Pile wants to get to the rigging,  so he's pretty good at keeping me in  line lol. Thanks for looking.

You know how I like to get side tracked lol. I was going to put some freizes on, but the white on the hull waterline was bugging me. So I redid it. I just sanded the waterline  down I/2 inch from were it was and redrew it. I masked it of again and sprayed it. It now has 8 coats of paint. The first two primer coats followed by 2 coats of finish. Didn't like it so sprayed it again 2 coats primer 2 coats finished. It looks a lot better, I give it a 93.2  %.20240823_114704.thumb.jpg.6e4bf4330d99617f59c427eecc33004b.jpg

This is the new water line, it has a bit of an edge but a back side of a sharp chisel will fix that . It's not a @John Ruy hull , but I am happy with  it. Next one will be better.:)

Now I will work on some small stuff, deck furniture, ships wheel, Binnacle. And I am going to start making the masts as well lots of work there. I plan not to thouch the hull for a week or more, I want it to dry up and cure.20240823_164537.thumb.jpg.07047c0e6238a08cbe2b722d80492876.jpg

Pile is in agreement with the ideal of leaving it  the hull alone 😔

But it will be fun stuff to make the mast, and I am going to serve some line so I can rig some blocks.

Thanks for looking and the likes.

Well @Keith Black I don't think I will be able to pull a late one tonight, everything is tacky,  lol . I been told by PFC Gnomer Pile to cool it, cool it,  cool it. Lol. But I am getting to all the fun stuff. And it amazing,  its trure what the say once you go Vanguard there's  no going back lol.

After the hull was painted, I was putting things away,  and peices for the sprail staircases were falling out of their sheets, so I made them and put them in the ship. They are very beautiful peices of pear wood.  I love this stuff, the stairs look great never to be seen again lol.20240822_155353.thumb.jpg.a5325f03dc0a4419f6a0d43753a3f731.jpg

20240826_203618.thumb.jpg.c69bcfead5a0e29cf8187a6b22cb0a4e.jpg

Oh well at least I know they're fantastic. Pile says make some more fun stuff the paint is  still tacky  .

So I made the binnacle,20240823_164537.jpg.b958963126b9e2ecdca6703ba3ea3aa3.jpg

20240823_173953.thumb.jpg.247e214d5245245fac9069078bdc416a.jpg

Then I painted the cap rails, and painted and just placed the figure head.20240826_214705.thumb.jpg.d146ace8dd89f736dd4daaa4fb0d44cd.jpg

20240826_223236.thumb.jpg.43579a722fb8d28aeb0d76b93487f0c6.jpg

Pile kept a eye on the figure head  as soon as it was dry on it went. I also made and installed the hatchs. Drill a bunch of holes for the eyebolts. And put the mast on, they are 2 inches longer than needed but I will damage one end when I put it in the drill to sander down. Oh and the railing around the stairs looks cool. 😎

I also am looking into a ship's boat for her, I saw @DocRob log of the Dutchess of Kingston fantastic,  log and great looking ship I might add.  As soon as I saw it I said oh yeah 😎 go to get one of those  boats :D.

20240826_222523.thumb.jpg.d02eb579953efad0229eb8245531737b.jpg

Well what do you think,  Pile says it's  the kit, it's amazing  follow the eazy to read instructions,  and like Chris says, At this stage, your model should look like this. And I  think I am close, from afar, but up close , yep I am a neanderthal  lol. 😆

Thanks for looking in, the more you model the younger you feel. 😉

So long my freinds,  thanks for all the help this place is awesome.

Today I have glued the figurehead on. It sits nicely.

20240826_223236.thumb.jpg.a17039399dba5a71c55606f25feecf4a.jpg

Then I put the wales on, I used a peice of masking tape after the first wale was on to help line up the next , it was a peice of cake. 20240827_123534.thumb.jpg.010b2032c22b40d70bddec3b8c2b880b.jpg

20240827_125633.thumb.jpg.e6277562e9bc63e218f0db4095042746.jpg

Then I moved on to the catheads, and hawse bolsters, then the upper and lower  rails.

1000006197.thumb.jpg.3884924a801b0de24d811ae3c6159ea4.jpg

Pile says  we need to fill under the figurehead,  then he will pass it.

1000006202.thumb.jpg.cb440271b78bbb66e7ba5605e21bd556.jpg

So well all that is drying,  time to start the photo etch. This is a fantastic kit, I am loven it. Well except for I steped on two cannon carriages,  no worries  Chris has lots I ordered two more lol.

Thanks for looking.

@Glen McGuire funny you should ask, meet Goober, he just arrived from the Artic. He was out servaing  artic Penguins. He needs time to warm up lol.20240828_004546.thumb.jpg.442d3e1df1ce17e135f2f2ae7199d857.jpg

20240828_004149.thumb.jpg.747744c7ece960a64112e30ff1a9c239.jpg

I used Super Phatic glue on the photo-etch, it works like contact cement and cleans up with water. Best of all it drys clear. So tomorrow I will brush on a coat of flat varnish  just to seal it in that much better. Some minor paint thouch ups, but later, on to the starboard side.  I can smell ratlines in the air, yeppie :D

I have 3 choices for ship's boat,  jury is still out on which one.But another day for that  🤔

I needed coffee today, late night. Lol

The ships wheel went together great. I just got my new speed paint  kit.And I painted the ship's wheel.  I think I will paint the tips of the handles black.20240829_161435.thumb.jpg.32892e1dfa2b874f814b6bd0f71a71c0.jpg

Pile gave it the once over, but having  rigged the ships wheel on my Pegasus,  four times,  I nailed it first time. I am just letting things dry and the lines stretch out.20240829_155232.thumb.jpg.2c94303c39d97d5c6f93487a172d4e0b.jpg

These are the pictures that go with the last post,  you can see I lost the nights feather. Oh well only we will know. On to the stairs and finish the rails and then the channels.  Then I am going to go back and look things over to see if I missed anything, two things I have to nail the photo-etch on and the top Pintle strap has to be painted black and put on. Ok later my freinds,  our internet is so bad, having a hard time with loading pages, this sucks.  but the son is on it, He says it's our server, so he's dealing with them for me.  It will be the middle of next week before this is fixed.lol I wonder how far I will get on the Duchess  before I can up load pictures.   Lol.

Sorry for being late, I had the same issue, the bowsprit interfering with the figurehead, but I didn´t glue the figurehead in place. It needed some tweaking, but finally, I inserted a piece of wood under the bowsprit, where it passes the hull, which steepened the angle a bit.
Components like the figurehead, I glue permanently into place, after all the masting and rigging is done. Same goes for the ships boat, where only the supports where glued onto the deck. I try to keep as much wiggle room for rigging and save the delicate components for last.

Cheers Rob

Hey @DocRob , yes I should have left the figurehead off until later. You would have thought that I learnt my lesson with the Pegasus,  I broke that figurehead four time before my daughter said she will buy me a new one,  lol.  I put that one together,  Now the Pegasus figurehead sits in a jar,  waiting till I get back to it.

I  was going to leave the figurehead off for now, but the upper rails went on over the figurehead,  so I  thought I had to do it now

In hind site I could have left the upper rail off on one side till It was safe, but I was more concerned about putting it on than the smart way of doing it, oh well. :)

The wales and channels were installed,  the first upper  two steps go in-between the photo etch crowns. After that I used a straight edge ti line them up  , and I still got them off a bit, but you know me, it'll will do.  I made the hand rails above the dome, and on the stren, painted those this morning. 20240901_234333.thumb.jpg.bab36636158fa6d1d2487b013b05e73b.jpg

I do have some small cleats to put on the bell tower  and the Staghorns to install . I am waiting for my replacement cannons, two of the cannons didn't stand a chance against a 270 pound Neanderthal. You couldn't even tell what they were lol.

As far as the ship's boat goes  , I had three choice, One use the boat from my Pegasus build, I tryed that, but the lights in the ship yard started flickering the temperature dropped , and the furnace growled. I took it off everything went back to normal. Lol.

Two and three are a 18 foot cutter and a 24 foot yawl, both are two large. So I message @Gabek to see what he thinks.

Ok , once around the horn for pictures,

Well I can't believe it's just been 30days that I have been working on this ship. It's a dream to put together,  everything just fits were it is supposed  to. Except the cannon balls. The frist rack I put together  the balls kept flying everywhere. Then I drop the bag. Yep, those little, tiny winy balls all over the black and grey carpet that's in the ship room. No cuss words were used lol.

I don't know how many spare balls I had but I have one extra, which is better than one short.lol. For the next three racks I put a drop of Phatic glue  first then added the ball , they stayed in place.

SO  this brings me to step number 217, which is the start of masts and rigging.  Yeppie.:).  I have everything done except the cannons,  all eyebolts, nails, paint thouch ups are done. Bang two coats of 2x flat clear coat, and she look marvelous.  But now I have to go get my 16x24 deck , on my house, painted, and the First Mates garden is ready for harvest. I will have to rototill for her as well. And on raining days I will be painting figures  for the King of the Mississippi , plus adding the water for the river and working on the train.

So it may be awhile before I start the mast and yards. I made up a mast board to build up the masts when the time comes.

Just a little progress,  I have rigged 3 cannons so far,  I had to order two cannon carriages,  and unlike @ERS Rich   order which took a week from the UK to Boston,  mine took 4days to come from the UK, then it stuck in Montreal Canada costoms for the passed 5 days and counting  lol. Oh well what can you do.

These cannons are fun to rig, I have no idea if these are done correctly but it's they way I did them. Breeching  rope and two blocks , then seized the lines and glue them in. I made a plan so that when the other two cannons finally get here I will remember how I did these lol. The rope coils look ok, I made four turns of the rope, and I guess I should have only did 2 or 3 turns.

Oh by the way, Private  First Class Gnomer Pile  got himself a make over. What do you think, He was very insistent on keeping his KB Lantern  copper and the light on.

He got caught up in a painting spree the other night, I painted 17 figures , and his cousin Goober..

These figures are ok for my diorama that I am doing, but they have no face, if you zoom in close, the are faceless. But from afar they will be OK.

Man I am tired, lol. Gardening and canning by day, painting and rigging by night lol..

Thank you so much everyone,  taking the afternoon off to watch the Bowl game, here in Manitoba,  but right after that the First Mate says it time to change the attachments on the tractor from rotter tilling to potatoes digging lol. The fun never stop. How does that saying go,  I will sleep when I am dead lol  😆 😂

Later my friend's.
