I have decided to give this hobby a try.  A long time ago I built plastic models and free flight airplanes.  I'm currently an avid model rocket builder.  I started getting Facebook messages showing some great wooden ships.   I'm tryiing to be realistic and have ordered the Model Shipways Grand Bank Dory.  Their three kit Shipwright line seems like a logical way to ease into the hobby.  I'm still awaiting delivery of the kit, but I've already read through the directions online.  They will likely make more sense once I have the parts in hand.  I'm enjoying reading many of the build threads here and have already picked up some tips.   I have a lot of terminology to learn though.   I'm excited to find this forum.  We have a similar one for model rockets where people are great at providing advice.

Anyway, I'm sure I will have some questions once I get started on the dory.   Are there clubs where you can meet with kindred spitis?   The only club I've found in Indianapolis is an RC club, and I'm not really interested in RC at this point,

Don't know anything about Indianapolis, but welcome to MSW. You thought rocket science was complicated? Wait until you try to figure out the rigging on a ship of the line 😆

It's all a bit intimidating right now, but rigging is the most daunting challenge.  At least I don't have to deal with that on the Dorry.
