your right about the time flying Boyd- been doing this build since xmas 2013 but never really started in earnest till about february 2014 as i was remasting and rigging an old mantua 1/96 Victory for a friend- see below pic.

Back to my Vic and carried out a bit more work to the masts as a break from painting yellow stripes. When on the workbench the mainmast stands at just under 5 feet 10 inches tall!

Only the tops and the cheeks are actually glued all the rest is just held up with friction at the time being.

Ty for the likes and comments so far everyone-there was more rigging added after that pic was taken Boyd! The Mantua victory is about two thirds the size of the billings model so  it is still pretty impressive.

Due to outdoor work being cancelled due to rain- again, i fastened the quarter deck pinrails, staghorns and kevels in place ( replaced the ply kevels and pin rails using lime wood, but used the staghorns that came with the kit). Also built replacement posts for the mizzen fife rail again out of lime wood- thinking i should maybe have painted the pinrails and staghorns before attatching but nevermind!

Yep Boyd, but some actual summer would be nice though- dont think we have had more than two days of straight clear sunny weather without it raining on the west coast of cumbria and we even had to fire the heating on at work a few weeks back!

Looking great! What sort of primer did you use for the hull? Your cannon trucks came up real good. I like your painting techniques.

Ty for the likes and comments- the hull was first primed with white acrylic wood primer then sanded back slightly and halfords high build auto primer applied then sanded back then humbrol grey acrylic primer was used below the waterline. Above the waterline i applied a couple of coats of the main colour thinned down to act as a further priming coat.

Ty Lawrence, i have been seriously considering the Tamiya masking tape for some time now- i dont normally use it but my eyes are getting past painting long straight lines feehand these days  - also thinking about delving into the world of airbrushing as opposed to hand painting and rattle cans.

after a long break of a year due to garden and house renovations (and 1/35 ww2 armour) back to the vic! Wasn't happy with the yellow stripes so re did them using tamiya masking tape while also realigning them especially at the stern. Billings had the rear gun ports too high so the stripes looked wrong when you followed the gunports!

also started on the gunport lids.

thanks for the likes and visits to the log everyone. finally got all the gunports in place and work progressing on the figurehead, also painted the mouldings on the forepeak. If modelling billings Vic with the ports closed you will find yourself six lids and twelve hinges too short!

due to all the handling of the lower hull I will have to remove the old laquer and re-do it- when I am sure I wont have to handle the copper again. On top of all this fun I have also started on the great little ships 1/72 flower class corvette upgrade for the revel (old matchbox) kit

Have fun all and keep building!

Ty for the views likes and comments again everyone. Finished painting the figurehead, and got the supports for the channels attached- used the fittings supplied for the chainplates by billings for these. Also getting further on  with the guns on the upper gun deck and nearly ready for rigging them (need these fitted before I can carry on fitting out the f'sle deck with the belfry and skid beams). Also added the etchings from the sergal 1/78 victory etchings set I bought for the stunsail booms(billings didn't provide for these). sorry the pics are a bit blurry.

Hi Keith, been away from the site for a while! Your coppering looks stunning and great job on the figurehead ( I know how small it is and the level of precision required on the paint job! I'm back following your progress with interest. Chris
