Very clean work! Amazing!!! -
Looks great. I think they would only be a problem if the gap is larger than the width of the inner planking.

Thank you Mike. I am not sure why but I was not thinking ahead to the final mounting and did not prepare for it when building. The little tiny resin pedestals where not going to do it so I made the larger cradles. I may at some time in the future rethink it. I like the idea of a mirror base.

Being able to mill your own wood looks like a great skill to have especially with the apparent lack of suppliers these days. Was wondering where you get the larger pieces of wood to start with

Thank you Dave. I have a set of Hahn's plans for the rattlesnake and they are impressive. After trying to follow along with the threads on drafting here it is very apparent how skilled they were.

Thanks Ben. As soon as I get the base finished and get out the real camera will try to get some better pics and add them to the gallery.

Cliff, that wood looks great. How nice is that sander eh? I was looking at the Echo cross section wood list and there are so many different sizes looks like you are off to a great start.

Ben that is looking great. Are those hinges blackened metal or are they something else?

1:24 scale I love it! Bigger is better I think. I definitely prefer the smaller ships. Anything larger than the big frigates while interesting are just not for me.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
