Thanks for showing us how you are getting this done. Every time I see one of these great Constitution logs I look over at mine and just sigh. I think I will restart it as a side build.

A good cradle is nice to work with. Any reason you used the band saw instead of the scroll saw?

Air Brush Paints
MEDDO replied to Worldway's topic in Painting, finishing and weathering products and techniques
Thanks Kurt. I have some old Floquil and I do like how they apply with just a regular brush. They are going to run out soon and I will need to try some other brand. Never used an airbrush before as I alway thought those things were for painting motorcycle gas tanks and flames on hot rods ... You know to make em go faster..... -
Air Brush Paints

Is this anti-recommendation only for use with an airbrush? Are they acceptable for application with a regular brush? -
That platform really is amazing. Am looking forward to how all the other decks are going to turn out. If this small area which will not really be seen is any indication they are really going to be something to see.

Very nice work on the masts. The last picture those masts look really big. I think it is perspective and not having the bowsprit in the picture makes them seem so big. This is going to be really nice when fully rigged.

Internal walls look wonderful. Thanks for showing us the steps. -
Was able to get the frames glued in. It went pretty slow but the overall run is really nice. I used a small level to make sure they were not tilted to the side. This weekend hopefully will get the strengthening battens in as well as the bow filler piece and maybe, just maybe the first strake.

In that first picture it looks like the one in the background has a quoin. Not sure if there was a time period or any specific reason to use one or the other. btw MS 32 lb Carronade kit has the screw mech.

Just a dry fit and they seem to line up fairly well with little to no adjustment. These things are pretty fragile.

Looking great! On the plans there are 2 ringbolts in the center floor (one aft and one at the fore). Are you just going to omit those? If not how will you place them as the new center plank will be above them?

Thanks Steve. I haven't started a regular kit in a very long time so we will see how it goes. I always forget how much I hate laser char. Also test fitting the rabbit... Basswood is kinda fuzzy eh?

How serious do you get about dust protection
MEDDO replied to bigcreekdad's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
Mask for sure. When using power tools then eye and ear protection. My little workshop is actually my regular office as well so I really need to keep the dust down as all my books and computers etc are in there too. One day I dream of a system where all my machines are connected up to a tube system which runs through the wall to a collector/shopvac in the other room which has remote on/off functionality.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
