    Glad to hear that you're on your way to recovery from Covid. That bug kicked my butt as well last December. I was pretty much on the couch with zero energy for 2 weeks before finally testing negative. I'd say it was a month before I was feeling fully back to normal.

    I'm surprised, Don, that the frames came unglued simply from the vibrations from the palm sander. Generally, at least in my experience, just a tiny drop of CA creates an extremely strong bond that is difficult to break free. Do you think that the CA didn't bond well with the melamine boards? Regardless, it sounds like it worked out for the better! Given the issues you pointed out regarding the side bulkhead pieces, would you recommend not gluing the frames to the building board if you were to do it again?

    Great explanation of this unique building format, David. It seems that you'll need to have a gentle touch when cutting the frames loose from the building board to prevent damaging them. That superglue is strong stuff!

    I'm a Coast Guard veteran so I'm always excited to see CG model being built. Unfortunately, there aren't many CG models in production. I have a copy of the out-of-production model for a CG 40 foot Utility Boat by Dumas that I hope to build someday since I was the coxswain on one them many years ago at the Captain-of-the-Port Los Angeles/Long Beach Station. Will you be making this as a static model or an RC model, David? I'm looking forward to following along. Good luck!

    I've heard you often say that you prefer to develop models that haven't been produced before by other companies so I'm thrilled to see the Connie on your list. I've always felt that there would be an enthusiastic market for some of the more famous models, like the Connie and others, that have been designed with the kind of modern techniques and instructions that you have developed at Vanguard. I hope you'll place the Connie high on your "to do list" and we'll see her sooner that later especially for those of us who are getting long in the tooth.

    You're off to a good start on the hull planking. I really enjoyed planking this hull and sanding it. The Pen Duick has such beautiful lines.

    Welcome aboard, Jesús! Your Victory model is impressive! My wife and I spent 10 weeks traveling in Spain a few years ago and we loved Sevilla. All of southern Spain and the pueblos blancos are so beautiful. We can't wait to go again.

The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.

The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955.
