  1. Hi Kevin, he only takes three days to tell us that he went to an exhibition...... Dafi just likes a bit of drama. Jan
  2. My wooden builds are gathering dust today I did some small stuff. The larger building blocks are done, detailing does cost a bit more time. The first parts for the firecontrol (or whatever, used for the anti aircraft guns) second thought: no tabs (There is an error here, but I am not inclined to correct it ) the aircraft platform: (with some weight to keep it in pl-ace while the glue sets) two skylight. Looks OK from this distance, but don' go anywhere near And finally: the last page that wasn't used till now. these are the gun-towers. Lots of tabs (needed this time), and a rather complex way glued rings to get the towers movable) you get the point of the ship being undergunned when looking at these towers: this is all there is with respect to guns. Jan
  3. And this is what Adrie means for the Zwarte Zee: rather fiddly stuff in there. the main parts page for the zwarte zee (1:250, grey version). The ruler is 30 centimeters long. Jan
  4. No, starting twice is not what I want to do. I'll check to see what can be used, and do not use the remainder. I do not quite lije this type of laser cut, the HMV version, far more fragile, looks better. Jan
  5. I had the camouflage in my hands today. That one is compeltely redesigned compared to the grey one: other parts (more, actually), and other constructions. Iguess the issues with the camouflage version are others than with the grey version. with respect to the railings: I have the laser cut set, but that one is made for the camouflage version, so the numbering is a bit of a puzzle..... Jan
  6. Today, I made a serious mistake..... I went to see a model exhibition. (No pics, forgot the camera) they had also some sales over there. In my current building speed this will get me almost till my retirement Jan
  7. No, you didn't miss anything. It is just that parents take their beloved children with them on their holidays Jan
  8. No no, she went to see some more interesting parts of the world, and beat the French
  9. Hi Remco, Are you still building, or have other things got between you and the workshop? Jan
  10. OK. I understand. Uploading on a number of sites is rather time-inefficient. Jan
  11. Nice progress! btw: why don't you upload your pics at MSW? Embedded pics makes reading your log so much easier...... Jan
  12. Hi Ed, can I ask a question on the stays? they seem to have a spliced eye at the masthead, but thay are also fixed at the lower end. How did they set up these stays, is such a way that there is enough tension? Jan
  13. The art of shipmodelling by zFrolick shows a planking like that
  14. Do I know this tutorial ? I should have saved it last time, but this is even better Jan
  15. Gluedfingers? Jan
  16. However, that proces is far more difficult in a bluff-bowed ship. I don’t know how it is wirhbthis ship, but in my PW the distance between keel and deck was largest somewhere in the feont part: the frame length is comarable, but the sheer is quitestrong, i needed an additional plank there. With second planking. I choose to let the planks run slightly lower, and added a stealer as top plank (hope you understand....) Jan
  17. Hi Adrie, Question: where is your build-log of the Ruyter to be found ? (some way or other I'm interested ) Jan
  18. And greetings from the other half of the low countries Jan
  19. Hi Marcus, those sailsare only used at ‘low wind’ conditios. Sometimes just two out of four are used (always on opposite vanes). At higher windspeed no sails are used to keep the mill at reasonable speed. you might have the same speed problem when you put your mill outside with sails rigged. (partially) furled seems to be an option Jan
  20. The problem is: the plywood needs predrilling (otherwise the splitting risk is large, and becomes larger by using a heavier hammer). On the other hand: predrilling will give unsightly holes in your planking that will not close without using filler. You may try sharp, thin pins in stead of nails. Usually works better than nails. I liked using clamps, like shown here: Jan
  21. Using violence is usually not a good idea. using clamps is sometimes a much better idea. Second question: which parts do need pins while the glue dries? Most of the time, parts should hold their place without pinning them. Jan
  22. the klapmuts is top protect the wooden beam of the kruiwerk: long heavy wood is expensive, so you need to be protection against water entering. (the kruiwerk is too important and too expensive to be hampered with rot) Jan
