Hey Steve, Sorry, I should have gone back and reviewed your log before asking that question. Don't know how I missed that. Anyway, it looks to be a very interesting process and the results are great. Thanks, I want to try it myself. Gary.

Hello Steve, I keep looking at your terrific engine and wondering what the base, frame uprights and top are made from. They really do look like cast iron - straight from the sand molds. Polymer clay? Gary

Hello Marc I've been reading your log and your catboat is really looking good. I like your tool and material procurement - a Samsung TV, HP printer and a parrot toy. Now that is resourceful and good thinking. Very nice model. I'm sure your sister is going to enjoy it. Gary

Hello Kees, I just recently found your build log and have read it from the beginning. Your model is turning out wonderfully and the level of your craftsmanship in styrene is so impressive - some of the best I have seen. Thanks for sharing your techniques and videos - I have learned a great deal. It is logs such as yours that inspire me to do better with my own modeling. I hope your health is improving - keep well. Hello Ken, I've been following your build (which is coming along beautifully ) and decided to take a peak at some of your other completed models online. I found your work on craftsmanshipmuseum.com and I am beyond impressed. Your models are simply stunning. Your Sopwith Camel and Model T are jaw dropping. I look forward to seeing this build progress. Hello Maury, Just catching up on your build and I think you're doing a beautiful job. Very nice indeed. I agree with your call on the mast partner. Although I liked the first version, your second version has much greater visual interest - it will be an eye catcher. Nicely crafted too. Gary

Well it doesn't look "pretty rough" to me Patrick - it looks pretty darn nice. So tiny, intricate and crisp. I'm curious - are you using a mix of materials? Some card stock, some styrene? Keep the photos coming. Gary

Very ingenious Steamschooner - I'm going to file that away. Gary -
Hello Mike That really is some complex joinery at the corners - but I have no doubt you will execute it well. It echoes and forwards the joinery in your model. Your ship is looking terrific by the way. Good luck on the display case. Gary

The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
