Mainsail is now up. I have rigged the sail reefed at the base. Not sure if I am totally satisfied with the results. In the end I had to use blackened brass mast hoops rather than wooden ones. They were too fragile and kept breaking. Very much in final furlong now.

Just perfect. You set a standard we all aspire to. What a beautiful ship you have made. -
Bit more progress. Fore topsail set with all lines fixed in place, including cluelines, buntlines, lifts, bowlines. Topgallant in place but lines not set.

I might re-do the flying jib. It disintegrated a little in the process.... To fix or not to fix...this is the question. Is good enough good enough?

I have been making very slow progress. Have added two furled sails. Flying jib, and fore gaff sail. Made using tracing paper dyed with tea. Edges folded over and boltrope glued on. Furled when wet. Then allowed to dry. Messy. And the rope tends to come off a little when you furl them. However, once furled - this is not very visible. I think it gives a reasonable likeness of worn and slightly stained canvas.

Wow! Something else. Monogrammed letters on the whole row of buckets. These are things I have not seen before. Staggering. Like a hidden treasure suddenly coming to light. I am sure there is a museum somewhere who would love to have it. There is a wonderful model in the Melbourne museum of the Cutty Sark, which a local man spent his whole adult life making, and so the museum has put it on display. I feel this model also deserves the same treatment. Tim

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
