  1. Mainsail is now up. I have rigged the sail reefed at the base. Not sure if I am totally satisfied with the results. In the end I had to use blackened brass mast hoops rather than wooden ones. They were too fragile and kept breaking. Very much in final furlong now.
  2. How splendid! All pear wood. I made the MK 90mm ships boat which was a wonderful kit. Except some slightly crumbly ply pieces. With this one being all pear...just fantastic!
  3. Beautiful. Excited to see a build of this kit. From one model building ex architect to another...congratulations. You are doing a great job. PS...are you also in Maine?
  4. I have completed the main boom with topping lift, and main sheet, mainsail outhaul. All based on Peterson's "Rigging Period Fore and Aft Craft".
  5. Jim, I made one of these for my Brigantine Phoenix model (in progess). Will be interested to see how yours goes. I found some of the wood pretty crumbly, so be careful. Pear planking is fantastic though. Still have a few details to add. I think mine might be the slightly larger version.
  6. Truly astonishing. Your carving is just brilliant. Wow! Tim
  7. Just perfect. You set a standard we all aspire to. What a beautiful ship you have made.
  8. Bit more progress. Fore topsail set with all lines fixed in place, including cluelines, buntlines, lifts, bowlines. Topgallant in place but lines not set.
  9. Doris. Your work is amazing. You set a standard most of us could only dream of. Just brilliant. Tim
  10. What a wonderful daughter you are...helping your Dad with his hobby. I pray that you would have great patience with him. Bless you. Tim
  11. Glenn, Just discovered your splendid enhancement of this kit. Wonderful attention to accurate details. And fantastic sailmaking. Love it. Tim
  12. I might re-do the flying jib. It disintegrated a little in the process.... To fix or not to fix...this is the question. Is good enough good enough?
  13. I have been making very slow progress. Have added two furled sails. Flying jib, and fore gaff sail. Made using tracing paper dyed with tea. Edges folded over and boltrope glued on. Furled when wet. Then allowed to dry. Messy. And the rope tends to come off a little when you furl them. However, once furled - this is not very visible. I think it gives a reasonable likeness of worn and slightly stained canvas.
  14. Doris. I think you have extraordinary talents. A master craftswoman at work. I stand amazed. How delightful you work is to all of us. Tim.
  15. Wow! Something else. Monogrammed letters on the whole row of buckets. These are things I have not seen before. Staggering. Like a hidden treasure suddenly coming to light. I am sure there is a museum somewhere who would love to have it. There is a wonderful model in the Melbourne museum of the Cutty Sark, which a local man spent his whole adult life making, and so the museum has put it on display. I feel this model also deserves the same treatment. Tim
  16. Wow. That's a big ship! What will you do with it when it is finished? Presumably it takes up as much space as a small car! Tim
  17. Love your build. Love your wonderful attention to detail. Ratlines seem to have just right amount of slack....beautiful. Tim
  18. Hi Jim. Apologies. Project is on hold! I have just moved house and everything is still being unpacked. Also resolved to finish my Scottish Maid before progressing further. Build log here: Tim
