Well done Dave! She's a lovely little ship. Where are you going to display her?
Are you still going to build the rattlesnake next or has some other kit caught your eye?

1:64 figures of both Pellew and Hornblower
Awsome! I guess there is no chance of getting Hornblowers followers Mathews and Styles?
These are sharp and highly detailed figures, Even at this scale. I can just barely see the 3D printer marks.

Hey Marcus
I've been building the Falkonet 1/24th four ored yawl. There are no written instructions, just pictures and numbers. If you get confused just look ahead in the instructions and you will see what needs to be done... most of the time. The laser cutting in these kits is really accurate, But at that small size I wonder how good it can be. How are you finding it?
Good luck!

@Linda DOBLE Caldercraft kits are decent but they need a lot of work to look good. Occre are similar in parts quality but have much more comprehensive instructions.
You might also want to look into https://vanguardmodels.co.uk/ those kits have excellent materials and instructions.

What is the difference between cable-laid rope and polyester?
Cable-laid is for anchors on ships, you wont need it for your Dory. Polyester is the thread I use for making my synthetic ropes. I do have cotton rope but it looks a little rougher and fuzzy.

Online only.

That kit rope actually doesn't look too bad for once!
https://syrenshipmodelcompany.com/ Has some excellent rope.
My store https://ropesofscale.com/ has light beige and Tan Rope. 1mm or .8mm would work for that Dory. If you buy one bag from me the shipping is cheap as I can send it by a stamped envelope. That is until the post service catch on that I'm doing that 😁

It's worth mentioning that this kit is also available as part of Shipyard's "laser cardboard" series (translating Polish to English sometimes produces odd-sounding terms). The laser cardboard kits are complete projects in 1/72 scale that include kit, frames, blocks, rigging material, paints, and glue. But they are not cheap -- the Mercury kit sells for north of $400.
The 1/72 Mercury kit is on my wish list. I've seen people do incredible work on it. Probably not the best kit to jump into card modeling though.
@GrandpaPhil I'll be watching along, I've not seen a 1/96 version of this ship yet.

Its all your rope....thought I had only ordered poly from you?
Your first orders were Cotton rope (Tan tag) and the others after were polyester (Grey tag). You should be fine though, Black is black and the other colors I have are pretty close to each other.

Your rigging is turning out well! I can see a few spots where you have started using my Polyester ropes, They have sharper detail and tend to be more photogenic. Looking foreword to more.
I'll be mailing you next order tomorrow. Shipping to australia has been really slow, So you should expect to wait over two weeks.

A frequent stropping on leather with gold or green or red compd will keep it sharp. Just do not hit a nail.
I use some 800 grit sandpaper before stropping. I don't remember the last time I bought a blade since I started sharpening them.
@Peanut6 Is the blade damaged or just dull and rusty?

You can find most of the build logs on this index. HM Bark Endeavour is in the 1751-1800 section. If you can't find that particular member you should at least find a lot of logs to help you out.

The plans state that the aft mast is 297mm in length, and the fore mast is 271mm in length. Do those lengths include the 20-23mm that is inserted into the respective holes in the deck? Or are those the lengths that should be "exposed" after the masts are inserted and secured? According to the plans shown in the picture above, the cleats at the base of each mast appear to be about 44mm from the bottom. Again, is that 44mm from the deck once the masts are fitted in their locations?
I'm fairly sure the plans are showing the full length. The cleats would be far to high otherwise, The crew would be around 26-28mm in height to scale, they couldn't reach 44mm to belay.
I've been building a Caldercraft kit and had wondered this myself when going over the mast and yard lengths. You can check against the other rigging plans in your kit and measure the mast on them, you should get the definitive answer there.

Deadeyes twisting is something that happens on real ships, cordage under strain tends to twist. As far as I know, the fix for this is called a sheer pole. In the picture below is the Niagara. You'll see the metal bar above the deadeyes. Most examples you will find on the internet have a metal rod that sits a little lower not this square bar. I've seen some ships where the bar was up too high and the deadeyes ended up misaligned anyway...

This is looking like a very detailed kit! To be honest all of the MK kits are this detailed.
I'm also looking forward to the Mercury and Venus developments. They will no doubt be as detailed and intricate.

I have a video tutorial on sezings. He got me making them successfully in a few minutes. I can now do them now on the model without tools, just takes some practice.
