The beakhead bulkhead is carved and is test fitted.  I need to adjust it to take the bowsprit, but otherwise it is okay.

Quick question, when did the Royal Navy start coppering their hulls?

My beakhead bulkhead is being carved.  In hindsight, I should have made this in multiple pieces.  Oh well.  Live and learn.  If it doesn’t turn out well, I’ll make another.

My first plank on bulkhead kit, that I completed was the Artensania Latina Bounty Jolly Boat.

The first real ship kit that I completed was the Model Shipways Sultana.
 

Having said that, in my personal opinion, the nice thing about the Santa Maria (at least as depicted in that kit) is that the rigging doesn’t appear overly complicated and there’s very little ornamentation.  I don’t think it would be a bad first kit.  Just take your time and ask plenty of questions when you get in a bind.

Piece number 2:

Upper head rails are in place.

I made the first part of the beakhead bulkhead.  It’s just sitting there.

 I know one of the pillars is a little crooked, but it’ll be covered up.

I finished the figurehead on Victory and am about two-thirds done with the beakhead and the head.

I’m one step closer to starting Triton, which means that I’m one step closer to starting Winchelsea.

I’m getting plenty of experience, so I’ll be much better off when I get to Winchelsea.

It was a steep learning curve, but a fun one.

I’m trying to get good, so I can do the carvings on Triton and Winchelsea justice.

I’ve got a set of AAMM plans of La Reale that the Admiral bought me for my birthday this past year too.  I would like to build that after I finish Winchelsea.

The starboard upper head rail is in place.  It needs some work after everything dries. But, it’s there.

Quick note to remember for anyone using the AOTS books as plans for their model.  The detail pages may not exactly be the scale that they say they are, so double check enlargement or reduction percentages on your model.

Just for the record, despite this minor flaw, the AOTS books are awesome.  I own most of them.
