I built this kit several years ago.
Replacing the pvc planking with mahogany is definitely a good call.
I did not and regretted it.
I’m looking forward to seeing progress.

Clinker planking is a pain.
I did it for the boats on my Prince de Neufchatel.
Take it slow and no throwing your model across the room, lol. -

I’ve been putting off working on the head because I didn’t want to build it incorrectly.
I’m working at slightly beyond the max of my skill level.
However, I learn by doing and the Victory has a twisted hull anyway, which can’t be fixed, so I’m not too worried if I make a mistake during the rest of construction so long as I learn from it. I’m using the rest of this build as a learning tool.
I’m learning a lot which I will carry forward to my next builds (like making sure that your bulkheads are square and that your keel piece isn’t warped). The port head timbers are in place. There will be some adjustments to them (Including putty) during construction of the head rails, but they are in place.

I have heard that you need to apply a prestain treatment to basswood to make it take a stain correctly.
A buddy of mine who is an excellent woodworker told me that.

Lol, well done!
Every single model that I have built has at one point or another become a lesson in adapt and overcome. For me, that’s how I learn and get better.
You are doing well and I am looking forward to seeing your progress.

I haven’t built any Caldercraft kits but I’ve heard good things about them.
A brig is a good starting point if you are new to the hobby.

I built the Guillows B-17, B-24 and B-25.
They were excellent kits.

I can’t “like” that.
That’s always rough when something breaks like that.Just hang in there. At least a top royal and top gallant mast isn’t too hard to remake if absolutely necessary.
Your Leopard looks awesome. I’m looking forward to seeing progress.

Thank you, Mark!
I have finished the head timbers.
I have a head rail made and installed. I have the opposite one made, but not installed.
The head rail that is installed is actually my second attempt. The first attempt is the splintered piece of wood in the second picture. The second attempt is 1.6mm card.
