Amazing work, especially for the first wooden build! I chose this one for my first also. You did such a better job than I did! I butchered it...Looking back, this small scale was harder than the larger ones I've done! Well done!

Did I read recently read that the gun mounts on this boat should have more reinforcement below the cap rail? I think they should. I mean" the cap rail shouldn't be the only thing taking the forces from the gun fire, right?" I think this was just an oversight. I will figure something that looks right.

Installed fore and aft decks, the rear deck was a sh*t show! I just didn't plan properly. Had to put in more framing for support, did it in a rush (don't know why I was rushing) and began chasing my tail around to get the additional supports leveled out. But all is well... just the little bug-a-boos that make me say "wish I did this or wish I did that. Bottom line, looks good to me! Time for the riser and thwarts, yee haa...

Great work! Makes me think of the seamen who manned these boats...having a whale on the line and going on the "Nantucket sleigh ride".

I feel your pain...seems as though every kit has it's little (or huge) dilemmas to figure out. Either in the plans, instructions or the materials or all of the above! I now just take it as a challenge to adapt and overcome! I'm pretty sure someone here will assist you, if not carry on in a way that makes sense to you. I suppose in all fairness to the people putting these kits together, the prototype builder, plan guys, editors on the instructions and people putting the kits together for shipping, have a complex load to accomplish. There's bound to be some problems.

More completed... added 1/8 x 1/8 supports for the floor boards. Painted the interior granite gray. Painted the red band on the upper planks. Dry fitted and permanently secured the floor boards. Added coats of Polycrylic Satin and hit with 00 steel wool. I'm not sure if I like the "Barn Red" color. Maybe too dark? I'll consider using "Flag Red" that I also have on hand. I was reading ahead in the instructions and saw where the thwarts will be located. Seems like they will be too high, the crew's feet may well be dangling in the air? I guess I'll have to do some figuring, I think I have a model R.R. "G gauge"(I think that's 1/24 scale) resin figure somewhere, see how that looks. Well, I'll be adding more soon, take care.

Looks way more sturdy, I'll do the same, a little more research first though. It's all coming together very well Paul.

Nice RB...you are helping me make up my mind about my next project! I am about 20 miles from the N.B. Whaling Museum and 25 miles from The Mayflower II in Plymouth Ma. Already have completed that model.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
