  1. Lookin really nice! This particular model is on my list to do, I like the size, it's easier to get nice details in...Will be watching this.
  2. Yes Paul, it looks like on plan sheet 2, the lower mast and mast boot are closer to 3/8". Although on the plans where the "one inch square for reference" is actually 1 1/16", ? Guess we just make it work!
  3. No, we all seem to over criticize our work, I thought the same that yours would be tough to beat! DR PS is also doing a great job!
  4. Yes, that's where the granite grey paint came from, left over from the Picket boat. Although on that I added some black to darken it. I think it will look good all together Arthur. The Picket Boat was a cool build, large enough to get some good detail in there and great for adding some extra details to personalize it a bit! The steam power plant was a cool learning experience, I did quite a bit of researching looking at similar vessels from that time period. It also had the flat deck which sort of gave me the idea to do the same in the longboat. I just looked at the plans and photos of it and said to myself "I would have made the floor flat, better moving around" and since it is my model after all, it shall be flat! I'm planning on doing the cap rail red but the section on the outer hull beneath the cap will be black with a black rub rail. The hull will be white with a thin black waterline stripe. I think it will be good looking! I'm aiming for a copy of the ship's boat on my Syren model.
  5. Some more work on the Longboat. Sanded down the hull exterior, applied some Liquitex Modeling Paste to the divots and visible cracks, (stuff is hard, made with marble dust). Sanded and faired the interior. Decided to go for a flat and level floorboard layout, I would have built it that way anyways, that is what the cross members are for. Also decided on a granite grey interior below the soon to be painted, red upper section. I thought with all the natural stained parts in there, (thwarts, locker, floor boards and for and aft platforms), it may look interesting to have a little contrast. Next up is the red paint and so on.
  6. Yes, rest up...take time to play out your build in your mind with the plans and manual, we can never have enough preparation for the complete run of the build.
  7. Lookin good! Been working slowly on mine, figuring out how some alterations on the plans will work for me. Got the hull cleaned up and gone over with modeling paste. Think I'll be painting over the weekend, probably post an update soon. Yours looks graet.
  8. Good choice, it will definitely keep your brain working! There are a fleet of "Victory's" here... Be prepared to purchase a large tool box and work bench which I'm certain you will fill with tools you may never even heard of yet... but it is fun!
  9. So, been slowly doing the hull planking. Ready now for sanding, filling, sanding ,sanding and then some more sanding...
  10. I feel your pain about breaking the top gallant... I broke one on my Syren with my big hand being in a hurry! Also broke the dolphin striker twice!
  11. Revel's "Constitution" was my first large ship model. You are doing a far better job than I...When I switched over to wooden ship kits, I found it so much easier! You need to be congratulated on this fine detail on a plastic kit of this magnitude!
  12. There is a lot of experience here...do some research, then you will have knowledge now and for the future! Experiment on scrap and you will judge for yourself. Nice work so far, finish it right.
  13. Yes, the sails give Her motion! I read a while back a modeler, " after doing all the rigging, why cover it up with sails". This is not the case with your "Great Republic
