Looking good. It may just be the angle of the photo but you may perhaps need to take a little more off at the stern to account for the depth of the second planking so that this lies flush against the width of the stern post.

Hi Seventynet, This is a fabulous build and it is really encouraging to me that you are a first time scratchbuilder. My copy of David's Hayling Hoy book is due for delivery tomorrow so this will hopefully be my first scratch build too at some point in the future. Your log will certainly serve as inspiration and guidance for me!

Yes I am having the same sort of problem with browser bookmarks so I may give an adaptation of your system a try. Thank you very much.

That is an interesting way of storing references to different parts of other build logs - something to ponder 👍

It looks like you are off to a good start. I hope the fairing is going well. I'm just starting the rigging on my model and I have enjoyed every minute of the construction so far - it is a great kit👍

Hello and welcome. Hobbytools.com.au sell some Model Shipway kits so it might be worth checking them out. They are based in Victoria. There is also modellerscentral.com an online store based in NSW. They have a wide range of kits and accessories from a good selection of different overseas companies so getting an kit from a store based here might be an easier way around the international postage and customs thing? It may not be the cheapest way though...?

Looking very good Thukydides. I also bought the serving machine to use on this build so I'll be interested to see how you go with it. 👍

Hi Thukydides, Looking forward to hearing more about the painting process. I have seen that some people on the forum don't apply WOP to hulls before painting and others do..... what are the pros and cons of either way? I guess the WOP seals the wood to an extent?? Thanks

That could be it. I was only using the kit supplied planks and so the margin planks wouldn't be deep enough to cut the joggles in easily if I had had tucked them under the bulwarks - at least that was my thinking.

Hi, I planked the whole bulwarks and then butted the margin plank up against them. I was able to bend a couple of the boxwood strips to use as the margin planks.

Hi Thukydides, Great painting! I planked the inner bulwarks and painted them before installing my margin planks. The bulwarks may need a bit of a paint touch up when the deck is finally finished but that will hopefully be easier than painting the whole lot later. I am also considering adding a line of spirketting too if I can source some suitable wood.

Hi Bob, Yes it is the AL kit. It is this year's Xmas present but it will be a while before I get started on it. I'll be borrowing heavily from your build log and those others on here given how sparse the AL instructions are. I'll get a copy of the rigging book by John Leather and maybe Leo will even have more helpful information about the TallyHo in his rebuild videos.

The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
