  1. Hello, looks like I'm a bit late to the party but hey you're doing great, it's looking a damn fine motor car!!
  2. and welcome to MSW
  3. This is a bit of a downer post 😥as made a schoolboy error and the wales were not low enough midships and did not have enough space to put a full width 1/4" plank on underneath the midship gun ports. I would have been notching round the ports on the first plank above the black strake. After an hour or so measuring and re-measuring I made the decision to remove the few planks I had fitted and start again. Thanks for all the likes and visiting and hopefully the next post will be good news. 😏 Cheers
  4. Won't like that one OC, hope you are ok? I now have a mental picture of you on all fours setting your soldiers up in the road😏😁
  5. Could you get the Admiral to shake while you paint 😁? The ammo/mig paints I have already have the agitator ball in, a good shake and they're good to go.
  6. Glad it was helpful Fred. Got a few quiet hours early morning today and the first planks have been fitted. Thanks Chuck for the information on the run of the wales into the stem as I was able to alter the position of the test batten before glueing any wood👍 Planked lower counter, laser cut pieces are superb! First planks fitted, it's a good job there's another layer on top. Starboard side wale, just need to take even more care and eradicate small gaps in future. I have one question, what have people done underneath the lower counter where the planking terminates? Thanks for stopping by and the likes, till next time. Cheers 😁👍
  7. welcome to MSW Vanguard models have Alert HM Cutter if you want to go via Alexander Kent or there are several sloops, EG HMS fly, pegasus or snake from other companies. Whatever you decide start a build log for as Mark says there'll be plenty of help and advice.
  8. Hi Fred, just re-read your log, and you got a hull to be proud of. The cherry looks beautiful with the finish on it. The QG's look fine and I love the colour on the transom. One question: where did you get your cherry strips from? Great job and may it continue in chapter 4👍
  9. Thanks Fred, I did look into getting a Byrnes but with vat and import it was more than twice the cost of the Proxxon. If I take my time cutting with the Proxxon and using the .5mm blade it's doing the job and more if I'm honest. I'm happy with it! Btw Chronos Ltd have it UK ready ! I have to admit I've bought chapters 2 and 3 from Chuck as I feel the stern and QGalleries are a step too big for me to scratch, (maybe on the next ship). I'm liking the challenge and if I produce a model a fraction as good as those in the group I'll be very happy. 😁 PS thanks for the likes everybody 👍
  10. Definitely go with the brown Tim, it's no so in your face😁
  11. So I acquired the .5mm blade and have cut a few planks to get me started. Before I get on with the planking I finished the stern frame after having quite hard time getting the filler pieces and temporary window blanks to fit satisfactorily. I think I may have got it!! All glued except the white pieces, then I realized forgot to cut the circular holes careful drilling later! So chapter two begins, I am happy to start planking but apprehensive as it's not my favourite activity but I do have all the time in the world to do it. Thanks for following😃 Cheers.
  12. Hello! I'm just about to start planking the wales and have put the batten on to mark the bottom of the wale planking but don't quite get the mention of a gentle 's' curve at the bow. I've looked closely at the photo in chapter two and still non the wiser. I would appreciate any advice/help. Thanks
  13. welcome to MSW
  14. You and me both!!! As a kid I'd stand and drool over the wooden model of Victory in my local model shop, but it took me over forty years to take the leap and actually get and make a wood kit🤔😜 I'm now in deep with scratch builds on the go and in the tool buying rabbit hole 😂😂 +1 It's always good to see old timers come back, (even if you don't know them) +2 ditto
  15. Thanks Jack 😉 Thank to everyone for the likes. Going to take a break on the Cutter for a while as I've been having some practice with my table saw and feel confident enough to start ripping some planking for Winchelsea, since I've now (hopefully) done the stern, plus she's sat looking a bit forlorn. I will be back though when I need a rest from planking 😁👍 Cheers
  16. Great job on the rudder and stem, they look so much better in proper wood rather than ply! If the plywood on the bulkheads has delaminated it was a good call to replace the stem! I'm pulling up my chair.
  17. Genny, from Derbyshire
  18. What was the other design you would revisit Chris, apart from Mars, just out of curiosity?
  19. With the weather bad and being at home for a few days I've been able to crack on with the starboard side deck. started at the bow again. I've noticed on the nibbing at the stern there is one more cut on the starboard then there is on the port. As all is glued now I'm going to leave it as is and hopefully once the deck is populated it won't be noticeable 😏 Thanks for all the likes, comments and looking in. Cheers till next time 😁
  20. welcome to MSW
  21. Thank you OC and Mugje. To all who looked in and the likes 👍thanks. So today saw the completion of the port side deck, the next task is the starboard side. Take no notice of the coamings as they are ones I made up for Triton and are not quite the right size! Only a couple of mm small but it sticks out like a sore thumb. Once I've finished on the starboard it will be getting a scrape and light sanding before a coat of varnish. Thanks till next time Cheers 😃👍
  22. Just to add to the chamfer/bevel, I would say a bevel is a definite angle with sharp edges whereas a chamfer has softer edges. I'll get my coat 😬
