Fokker Dr.I by Mike Dowling - FINISHED - Artesania Latina
cog replied to Mike Dowling's topic in Non-ship/categorised builds
Not as challenging as yours, this one is at 1:72. PE and some plastic ... I think I'll keep my eyes open for the one you're building a wee bit over 3" -

Gotcha build! This one I will thoroughly enjoy -
It is in the eye of the artist how he/she shows the subject on canvas. It doesn't matter if a bear looks like a cat, as long as it's what you meant to paint. Look at bauhaus, cubism, and all the other art movements, but for photographic realism ...

Alan, You are confusing me: "Many images of the "stick" show it with a head, whereas others do not. " Masts are often refered to as "sticks" and masts too have a head ... for those wanting to throw a more or less pointed stick, here is some further reading. Maybe it was a javelin all the time, but only at the end a very blunt one

Russ, Do you really think you can improve on those outstanding builds of yours!?!?!? Cheers

Wouldn't you get the stepping issue at an angle ... trading straight for slanted lines/ripples ... Cheers- 993 replies

Red/vermillion is a nasty colour to cover with a lighter one. Usually best to sand it of as much as possible and than cover with the lighter shade. Another option, prime it first with a light primer. Great details. You do get a lot of etail with the 3D printing, won't you be afraid it will stand out of the rest because of such very crisp details?- 993 replies

Thought you're a glutton for punishment ... Nice stick though, even if it's made the hard way ...

nearly missed the start ... NICE! Another build to enjoy. This paper modelling is pritty dark, it does miss the priming, and painting, but the PE is just as horrendous as on plastic!!

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
