Fokker Dr.I by Mike Dowling - FINISHED - Artesania Latina
cog replied to Mike Dowling's topic in Non-ship/categorised builds
which finger ... Nice progress, although it is hardly visible due to the size of the items -
Here's the beginning of your prop. I first cut the prts from a piece of mahoganny 1.5 mm thick, as I didn't have anything else (that was December last, I got a wee bit side tracked a.o. ) As the prop couldn't exceed 1 cm thickness I had to sand the parts down. Both whilst cutting as whilst sanding a few of the parts seem to have a different idea about being a piece in one ... Next up sticking them together and shape it down to a smooth looking prop

Fokker Dr.I by Mike Dowling - FINISHED - Artesania Latina
cog replied to Mike Dowling's topic in Non-ship/categorised builds
I think it will be rather hard to compare the two, as you stated, Mike: " Historically the Fokker and the Sopwith were built in completely different ways " It seems to me the kit manufacturers did as well in their way -
bottoms up !! He nearly is since he started making tiny dioramas, does it all by touch (pullin' yer leg) He does a tremendous job on it. I did the O16 he has done, and know a bit what he's up against, I am in awe at what he presents right now

looking good Greg, I am jealous of your temps. Can't do any airbrushing here. After a few days with night temps back to normal (+ºC) we are back to night frost. I'll just have to sit it out again

It all depends on shape, square will be hard to place, but rectangle wouldn't be much bigger than the ground plates of your ships, Greg

Your build is astonishing, Moxis. Beautiful details, like those marvelous door, and window fittings, deck "furniture" like the anchor winch ... Your eye for detail, and the need to replace items (e.g. handrail) when you are unhappy with the result ... it blows my mind ...

Scott, Everybody can build from scratch, for some it takes a bit more time or effort to get the required result. Those blast bags aren't to difficult. Just give it a try, you can always have a change of mind ... maybe you even like doing it ... Cheers

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
