It looks good, Elijah. It seems that the power tool isn't necessary ... you can use your savings for something else - another kit mebby?

Robin, It depends on the stain you use. Is it stain or paint ... stain you might (probably will) see the dark lines, paint you most probably won't

Patrick, Kees has been at MSW from time to time. Not much work done though. Looks a bit like me model wise ...
-
Patrick, Nice, clever those sections, but how on earth are you going to get thet front piece out ...
-
Bob, Patrick could have made a vacuum formed hull (like Kees de Mol's KW88 Pelikaan) ...

Robin, Glue is what you like to work with and the experience you have. I use Titebond Wood Glue and CA. They are sold a.o. at Baptist in Arnhem, but I presume near you (at the sea side) too. Note it is what I prefer. For plastic/brass I use Pattex, for two compound epoxy I am going to try Pattex's too. Look at the planking speed from the size. You have planked 65 cm in real life with some very long, and thick planks. I would be taking a nap after that to recover my strength

It does make sense, doesn't help me to solve my problem though, but your work looks very promising. I look forward to the next steps in your build

It's hard to base your comments on the pictures from someone else, Elijah, try to be as specific as you can, for like Jan I cannot see the problem ....... THOUGH, don't let this be a reason not to comment in future!!!

Looking good the hull. How did you keep the bend in the styrene fixed? I have a part for an airplane which is round, but it won't keep it's rounded form ...
-
Planking is fun, you see the hull growing under your hands ... and suddenly you've got a ship/boat ...

Piet, Good to see you take your mind of the daily worries planning the next steps in your build. It must be hard on you to find a friend in such dire straits, she must be scared but knowing you , you and Gwen will be there for her. I love the drawing, your cat must be a ferocious little fellow, or is it a she - the sheilas are the better hunters anyway - which shows in the drawing. Well done. I wish you strength, and your friend a recovery like yours, my friend Cheers

Gawd almighty ... pfff ... why do I always have to catch up with you, Patrick. It's making me daft ... ... You're planning to raise your own bar ...!?!?!? You are a seriously sick person ... but I like to see you meet your own challenge ... and I know you'll manage ... I'll be looking over your shoulder ... [move over MarkT ]

Nibble1954 (your screen name is far to long ) You are dead right. Cleaning comes first and last. Greg, Don;'t look at it as "Bugger, this is a whole new world" - it's how I attacked it too - but it's fun to work with. With the H&S airbrush I got a CD on which they explained a lot and give prastice tips. I did actually follow those and it was fun to do. Gave me a sence of understanding the tool. I tought myself how to weld (CO2), before I started on my BLMC Mini Van. I spend quite some time trying it out on different metal thicknesses ... Don't rush yourself because you want to start your build .... When I see how you create this build ... it is inspiring and I wish I could do it the way you do .........................

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
