I had the good fortune of spending a few hours at Jotika a couple of weeks ago and saw all their models in one place, including the Surprise they built so many years ago. I have to say Agamemnon really stands proudly among those models.

Rick: That would be cool to visit and see all of their models. Did you happen to get any information on the release date of the Surprise kit?

Also,, found there is 2 Agamemnons in the Yukon. Found another fellow ship modeler north of 60. Its good to know Im not the only one alone in the wilderness.

  2. Everyone: Its been a while but I have managed to get the all of the square sails on the Agamemnon. While there is still some rigging to do on the square sails I am holding off on that until I can get the stay sails on her and then I will finally see the light in the end of the tunnel.

Its been a slog in making any progress but its good to see it starting to come together... Especially with the Winchelsea waiting in the wings!

i was enjoying the Enterprize build very much, but it was slated in a FB group, and somewhat threw me off my perch, hence the restart of the AV, i dont have the skills for a full scratch and this was at the time the best kit for it, im now ready to get on with her, but so enjoying me present build, so i will continue with that for a while longer

Kevin: I wouldn't get jaded by comments from FB.. as they say.. consider the source.. 😃 In any case, I do want to mention I was impressed on you obtaining the necessary information in order to construct the lower deck area. I will be keen to see you get back to the Enterprise. Keep up the good work.

Good morning mike, i adapted the upper deck to make it fit in the lower position, im sure i could have attemped scratching one, but i went for the easier option

Kevin: Makes total sense from my perspective! 😀 I have to say you have taken on a arduous task "infilling" the lower deck on the Enterprise. Im going to find the kit a challenge in itself! Good luck and keep the posts coming.

Kevin: I have been following your build log for the last while as I have this kit in the wings as a project down the road. I read the few posts and I was wondering, why did you need a replacement upper deck? Did your additions of the lower deck change the configuration of the upper deck? Just curious.

I just decided to see how the bulkheads fit on the spine: Perfectly !!! You barely have to remove some charring on the spine and the bulkhead will slide in and be perfectly square and flush. I am truly impressed by the quality of the cuts and fit. On such a large model, it is impressive:

Hmm... I thin Bulkhead #18, needs to sit lower. I misplaced it.

The keel is built separately and then glued to the spine. The keel is made of three layers of cherry wood.

    Thanks for the tip Mike!

Actually, I just finished building my 14th Woody Joe kit a couple weeks ago, and another 8 or 9 in my stash!

Most of those completed are smaller kits, but include all of their Japanese traditional watercraft, which is really where I've turned most of my attention to these these days.

Hey, I'd love to talk more about Woody Joe kits, ships, temples, pagodas, castles, etc., but I feel like we're hijacking this thread.

Can we move the discussion? I guess it would have to go into Shore Leave???

Clare: Sounds like a plan! see ya in shore leave..

Mike, beautiful job on that pagoda! I actually have this kit and want to get to it. But, I did a quick weekend build of a 1/150 scale version of the same thing. It's a new kit and they use printed paper for some of the detail, which works really well for the small model. I agree that Zootoyz.jp is the way to go if you want to buy a Woody Joe kit.

EKE, I have the hull started for Woody Joe's 1/75-scale kit of the Dutch-built corvette Kanrin Maru. Maybe I mentioned this earlier in this post, but Woody Joe does their homework. I purchased some plans from a museum in the Netherlands and used it to check the Woody Joe kit's hull, and it's spot on. I think you'll find the same is true of the Cutty Sark (as well as the Susquehanna).

Clare: One piece of advice.. if you are going to use paint to colour the wood on your woody joe kit  (the japanese cedar is very bleached in its colour), I would recommend puritan pine Minwax stain for the natural wood colour and Vallejo or other pigment paints for the grey roof and white paneling. I think any acrylic or enamel paint would be too thick for the cedar wood that is provided.  I also have 2 Woody Joe kits waiting to be built. 🙂 They are a nice break from rigging and they are a real topic of conversation when on display. I also found them a great souvenir if you have had a chance to visit Japan.

  9. I have bought several of there temple kits and the kit of the Yamato and there work is amazing. The wood is well cut and the instructions are pretty intuitive even though they are in japanese. I dont know about there ship kits but if the temple kits are any indication I would recommend them very highly. Here is a pic of the Joruji Temple model I built a few years ago.

A couple of weeks probably.  I am also headed down to Washington DC and the Smithsonian soon I will be be away for a few days.  Im leaving on the 16th.  I probably won't have it ready before I leave but I am gonna try.

chapter 7 has a ton of parts and laser cut sheets as you can imagine.  Its probably the biggest chapter so far.  I started cutting parts yesterday for the first batch.

    Chuck

    Chuck: Thanks.. Appreciate the update!

Chapter seven materials list.....Materials List for Winnie seventh.pdf

Remember there is no Chapter six materials list for Syren Parts because its just the guns.  Basically you need twenty four cannon (1 15/16" long) and the corresponding carriages.

Chuck: any ETA on the laser cut parts for chapter 7 as well as a chapter?

You also have a button in your profile which you should activate if you are an NRG member. There's a field to put your membership number into also. Only staff will be able to see the number.

    Screenshot-2021-05-09-at-09.54.39.jpg

If members here can switch that button on and add their number, I can also add the badge as I see your number online. It makes things easier for staff.

John: I found that as well and added the information but it didnt seem to make a difference when I posted on MSW. But I have dropped a line to Kurt and we will see what happens! Thanks

You are doing an amazing job with this model! It will be quite a piece when it's finished. Well done, and thank you for sharing this work.

Rick: And thanks for the post! I have to admit there are some days I wonder what I was thinking when I decided to put sails on the Agamemnon but it does add a whole different dynamic to the ship.

    Thanks again

Thank you Mike,I'm sorry, I don't have any plans for Hms Bellona. CAF is developing that project. I mentioned HMS Victory 1765 and HMS Princess Royal 1773. If I can get their licenses from NMM, I will continue those projects. I did OEM a (another) 5th rate project  carvings  (except Winchelsea),as long as any project is legally licensed.

    Jack

Jack: My mistake. Thanks for clarifying that point for me. You are correct that CAF is developing that project. You will certainly will have your hands full with the Cumberland, the HMS Victory 1765 and the HMS Princess Royal 1773. Its good to hear that you are making sure all your projects are legally licensed.

Do keep us posted on all of your efforts.

    Thank you Thomas,😃

Thank you JJ! I'll let you know as soon as I finish some more parts and preparations. Many thanks to MSW and Chuck. In fact, Cumberland used to be the background map of MSW's website. This project was proposed by me and was supported by Chuck immediately. I followed his suggestion. This project will cooperate with MSW for promotion, so more information will be released--when we(True Image model) finish the negotiation with MSW on some details.I need to follow MSW's rules about business content.

    Jack

Jack: This is good news about the HMS Cumberland. Please keep us posted on any developments and any pictures you have to share. While we are on teh subject of new kits, I remember you were talking about a new kit of the HMS Bellona. Any updates on that?

No work of art has 100% universal appeal.  My wife can't understand what I find so funny about Monty Python -- go figure.

If anyone asks you why Monty Python is so funny even today, ask them to tell you about their worst story of customer service and then play them the "dead parrot sketch"... a lot of things just dont change.... 🙂
