CA (cyanoacrylate) "super glue"
Knocklouder replied to Dr PR's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
I use both the blue cap and the green Gorilla Glue. Most of the ship's I build tar above the deadeyes, so much liberty is takin with the glue because I tar all my shrouds from the deadeyes to the platforms. But that's me lol. I will add , put Vaseline on the stem of the glue bottle, it help keep the cap lose, it does want to get stuck on at times. Bob M. -

Not much of an update, I have Fallin again separating my right shoulder again. I can't even tie ratlines. Poop. Oh well what can you do. I fell off a make shift chair , lol actually three tires piled up and one decided to roll away with me on it. I landed right on my elbow, the next day I could only look forward no side to side to stiff, and the arm in a sling just laying there unless lol I needed some heart blocks and timble blocks so I ask fellow member @Gabek if he could whip me up some. He is really busy, but will drop everything to make something for a friend. Thats just the type of guy he is. And he's my buddy. Thanks my freind. Here he threw in a couple of ships captains, for another build, and a ships boat for the Golden Hind. The ship will look like this for awhile , darn I wanted to finish it up, oh well I am lead to another build. I am going to start a Bluenose from Billings, well maybe just a box opening and put the parts away that sort of thing, I am pretty sure I won't be doing much, but I can still look at logs and do research, . Talk soon my friend's, thanks for popping in . Knocklouder.

Some good news and some not so good news too. Frist the good news, digging into how to rig the Golden Hind, the kit instructions are useless, but a member told me that it is rigged pretty close to the Mayflower, and I have done one from Amati that had good information on how to tie, what blocks and where things go, so I dug out my Mayflower info and boom there it all was , and if I get stuck I can run upstairs and look at my finished Mayflower. Lol And the bad news is I just noticed that they mainmast platforms is glued on backwards. Darn, to much work for me to redo to fix this soo.... marking it down as next ship I 'll do better lol. Plus that big plastic sail on the upper main mast will hid it lol. 😆😅 So I am in my happy place , ratlines. 😁 . Plus the not knowing what to do about the rigging , is a big load to get rid of, just a matter of neatness and getting the the time to do any modeling. Between hockey season, planting season, stuff I got to do season, I am sure these ratlines will take awhile. On thing about plastic is if you wiggle it back an forth for awhile it breaks. I had to stop yesterday because I was shaking so much that the deadeyes were breaking off. Of the 20 sets of deadeyes I have shook off four so far, and they are a pain to fix that's for sure. Armed with new information about rigging, time to geth'r done .!! Thank you all so much, everything you need to know about modeling you can find right here on MSW/NRG,. The little plastic ship is growing on me, painting is just about done three walls and some sail highlites. Rigging should be straightforward enough, like I say it's a matter of how much detail I want to do. We will see. Thanks for popping in. Knocklouder

A special thanks to @Snug Harbor Johnnyfor his suggestion that I look over the bolt rope on my sails, sure enough I glued them on wrong. yes they look better thus way, there are a couple of little dents in the sail that I am hoping a heat gun can fix that we will see. And of course, I had to see what they will look like lol. Except for the four yards and the bowsprit mast that are all back in the box things a running smoothly. Starting to look a lot like the box , and the lower shrouds for the foremast are installed, on to the main mast tomorrow, yes there is a white out in Winnipeg right now so have to shut her down for the night. Back at h'r tomorrow, Knocklouder

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
