@mspringer That six books are classical SF literature, but not superb literary achievement. Frank Herbert had some very good ideas, but I think he lost himself somewhere in the middle of writing, so, whole thing is very interesting, but, unfortunately, without great point it could have. Herbert has opened an important and major philosophical sociological and psychological issues of human nature, but he could not, or did not have the power or will to bring them to an great end, and a meaningful completion. At the end of last book you stayed "little" confused. What he want to tell ? Even today after 3-4 passings over all books, I do not know But some thoughts and reflections planted and painted here and there... WOW !!! Just keep you in thinking about, during your whole lifetime, and force you to come back to this books from time to time On the other side, David Lynch`s SF movie "DUNE" from 1984 has also place in history of SF movies. Only watching it in the time surrounding and the circumstances in which was created 1984. movie have some values. Good music costumes and scene , but very bad acting, with on that time great visual effects, without any success in implementation of main and background story and point of first Herbert`s book "Children of Dune", TV mini series from 2003 - piece of scrap trying to be something more than SF soap, without any sense for Herbert`s thoughts All in all, along with the music of Led Zeppelin (quote under picture is from song "Stairway to Heaven"), and some other "spices" they are integral part of my youth, and surely have some influence and meaning in forming my personality and today point of view. And I love metaphors and comparison Isn`t building complex ship model something like Stairway to Heaven ? Not verbatim as in lyrics, but generally ? Per aspera ad astra !!! Isn`t every marriage and family something which spice contents ? Little everyday things with meaning of life ? I think so Happy modelling to all followers and friends- 4,152 replies

... from time to time, my poor nerves also look well after him ... ... Spices for everyday life ... And a spice must flow !!! Great Serbian children poet, said in humorous way, great truth " ... beat you children as soon as you notice it starting to resemble you ... " " ...Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run There's still time to change the road you're on. And it makes me wonder ..."- 4,152 replies

Thank you Mark and Bob, as usually, you are right. Clean surface and worm tip. And a lot of practice. My soldier iron, when cleaned is worm enough to start, and after 10 min, it gets cold by itself ???? Cleaning it regulary with wet sponge and steel-sponge ( I supopose it is correct name ?) as I see in tutorials, from time to time with sandpaper, and after another 10 minutes, whole story again Cheap piece of junk. What to expect from 3€ price ? But this is already told story. How much money, so much music Just to mention that aligning this very little pieces ( wire and ring) for soldering somewhere in the air under workbench, is pretty tricky work, even with my "third hand" helper, and some other jigs I made. "Aligator clips" on "third hand" are too rough and large for little pieces. So this is real gymnastic to adjust whole construction - medical pean with ring in the top, pinched by "aligator clips", not to swing and move, on right altitude and right horizontal angle to match with little piece of wire in little fixed table clamp. And to put magnifier somewhere above where it will be usefull, at the same time as not to interfere. And in all that chaos, at the same time to have enough space to work, little cut pieces of solder wire to be here when you can easily get them with top of needle ... OMG Really helpful tool for this little works - medical pean. I have one, but I must bye another, and then to find a way to keep them still in the air If somebody ever told me, for ship modelling I must find and have some medical and dentist tools, sure I could think that person is little without itself- 4,152 replies

Why am I such a idiot ? Why I always have to discover hot water again ? Why I always, after hot water have to discover a hole in the flowerpot ? I proposed Bob ( Rfolsom) one possible solution for stanchions, he did it very well, just exelent, and why I have to ask for more ? Solder a litle ring ? When white paint comes over - WHO will be able to see difference less than 0,5 mm ? I think this is good enough, and this will be final solution, so, production can start- 4,152 replies

And as usual in life, when you expect crowd and chaos, all somehow clear and you have regular peacefull day ... (life sometimes go in reverse way - you expect peacefull nirvana day, and after couple of hours you just do not know where your head is) So, yesterday evening I finished inside painting of bulwarks, and here is result Satisfied, and GO, STANCHIONS GO ... It was late, so I leave Her to rest from me Today, I can not believe, almost whole day for me. So, finished my homeworks, ( it is raining outside, so gardenworks must wait) and inpatiente run down to shipyard to open stanchions factory It's really an injustice what's happening to me all day Last time I managed to solder a nice little rings, and was horny like a pig how this SIMPLE THING AS SOLDERING easily and quickly go. But .... for some unknown reason whole day I could not solder any single thing, even after six hours of persistent and stubborn attempts. Tone of solder wire is melted on the work surface, another on my work paints. This damn thing or will not melt at all, or express turns into a drop precipitously to go to ... Over a hundread times I cleaned iron, cleaned and made new parts to join, experimented, tried again and again ... After 4 hours before dinner and 2 hours after, I gave up, thinking that somebody put anti-soldier magic spells to my workshop #$!%&%" As I am very stubborn mule, I ll try again tomorrow- 4,152 replies

Just come home and had my lunch, another panic start: His bike hiccup. We unnecessarily disassmble fuel tank, clean needle of carburetor and power battery, tight chain, mount again all parts and damn thing works. Even I do not know what happened. Hothead is 195 cm tall, and you can imagine how big this beast is When finally Hothead leave me alone, first hand of acrylic white inside bulwark paint is done. Unlike black, white acrylic is somewhat transparent, so, for outside white "square" rails I must figure out something ...- 4,152 replies

This do not help, Bob ! My crew also do not help. Following next days and whole weekend are full of family happening : Kids birthdays ( 22th and 24th february) with two home parties, Princess have exam in forensic medicine on unknown day so panic is wide spread in whole home, and Princess started to hold in house hip-hop classes at weekend, Hothead leads some people (rock band) four days to take a music in his music studio in our house ( studio controls are in the middle of house, and recording room is in the attic, so they will pace and run throught whole house four days !!!), his bike is still in dismantled parts in whole garage, some relatives and friends will come in visit, in mean time have to fight with kid`s German language school, on Sunday I have to visit cemetery in downtown with my old aunt, cleaning whole house ( apartment 150 m2 + 50m2 garage and heatroom) more than once, visit my old man ( 87 years) at nursing home, Admiral except to help her in some domestic works, there are fruits and flowers to be treated in homeyard , my close friend bought a new car and insist to go with me to test drive and to dinner, have to meet one client in mean time .... I got tired only of the enumeration ... It seems that as I catch few hours of work tonight, this is it until next week. And She become little nervous because She thinks that She is neglected ... additional pressure from shipyard ... Any volunteer to hide me and keep me safe next 6 days ? Away from here the better ! Just kidding. I like action in family life. That is the wonderful point and blessing of living together- 4,152 replies

If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
