  1. Thanks for the overall photos, Popeye - numero uno! John
  2. You should be proud of what you've accomplished, Kees - she's a beautiful model. John
  3. That's starting to look as complex as rigging a square rigger, Popeye! John
  4. That looks a nice model, Mobbsie - well worth the work of restoration. John
  5. Thanks for that, Augie. I don't think that show have been on TV out here. The luggers from the 20's would still have been the same design as the 'Pritt'. John
  6. I agree with the others, Mark; I can't really see any reason to plank the inside first. John
  7. The cake looks like it's up to the standard of the model, Popeye! John
  8. For those interested, here are a few photos of the 'Alexandra Shackleton' on display at the Australian National Maritime Museum in Sydney. The 'Alexandra Shackleton' in the replica of Shackleton's famous 'James Caird' that was used in the successful re-enactment of Shackleton's epic journey in 2013. She is currently on display in support of the museum's exhibition 'Shackleton: Escape From Antarctica.' John
  9. Thanks, one and all. Fitting the margin planks around the frames is really quite soothing - just a matter of working one step at a time. John
  10. Looking good, Popeye, BUT ....... where's the photo of the birthday cake? John
  11. Thanks for the support, folks - it's much appreciated. Russ - yes, they were cut to fit around each frame. A card template of the deck curve was made first, then the plank cut to fit snugly against the inboard edges of the frames and then the plank marked and cut (cut and try; cut and try) to fit around the frames. John
  12. Just a small update. I've started work on the deck, but the fitting of the margin plank has taken a little longer than expected, so that's all that's been done for the moment. Next time I manage to get to the museum I can start on the deck planking proper. John
  13. I think I'd go for the no roof option, Bob - too much risk of damaging something reaching in amongst the rigging to take the roof off. John
  14. I've been following along, Michael, but all this detailed engineering is a bit beyond me - delightful work, note the less! John
