  1. A simply fantastic rendition! Unique in every aspect. A project of which you should be very proud. I'm happy to have been among your many followers. Now ------ what's next ?????????
  2. If we start to see sawdust while he's doing shrouds and ratlines, we have a problem!
  3. You won't go wrong with this kit Timmo. The plans and instructions are just a pleasure to work with thanks to Chuck. Rich --- if you go back a few pages you'll see the transom is a kit-supplied laser cut piece. I just painted it black with about 8 coats of MS Hull Black acrylic and gave it a coat of flat acrylic lacquer.
  4. Just put in another 10 or 12 years at the job and then you can stay home like us old, retired folk. But guess what ----- there is still never enough time for shipyard duty!
  5. I'm really pleased to her how happy you are with the kit. We read so many posts about poor quality stuff around that your comment just brought me a smile.
  6. Computer was down for 2 days and I just got back up. Thanks for all the kind comments and likes ----- all most appreciated. On the painted castings. Testor's Model Master enamel named 'wood'. Solvent based. No primer. Just thinned it a bit with acetone and did 6 coats brush on. Then one coat of Testors Acrlic Flat Lacquer. Now, I knew someone would notice the stern scrollwork not being reversed. Actually, not just someone ----- BEN! I'd like to say I did it as a test, but no....just an old fool stumbling along. I might just fix it. Hey ----- I got them right P/S :D Will be back in the shop soon to do pintles and dungeons ( I despise metal work).
  7. Wait.....last thing I remember was Fonz atop Mirage. This ship-stacking looks like fun! Aggy hull looks GREAT!
  8. The bulk of the heavy lifting on the stern and quarter galleries has been completed. Here are a few different angles: The photo etched garlands and metal castings were finished with Model Master 'Wood' color (never claimed to have much imagination) then given a coat of clear flat acrylic. We've already discussed the glazing. And now for the classic CONFEDERACY shot: Have a few things to add to complete the stern. Neptune (he's at about 11 o'clock) needs his Trident, the gun ports need hinges, eyebolts and lanyards and there's a little touching up to carry out (one or 2 stern lights needs 'caulking'). That will all wait until I get the rudder and it's fittings mounted. I have to fess up and admit I didn't think I'd get it to come out as well as it did. But thanks to Chuck's design and a little care with all the alignment going back to the stern framing I feel pretty good about the way she looks at this point.
  9. I'm certainly going to miss you while you take a break and we understand how life can rear it's head and get in the way of a complicated project like the Morgan. The important thing is that you stay well. We'll leave a light burning in the stern gallery for you John.
  10. Copper has it's own charm. Of course, you're going to do individual tiles so we'll get ready to listen to you for weeks ----- like we did with the ratlines !!
  11. Now, now ..... you never know. If the planking comes out looking like a fine piece of furniture you might want to leave it natural! Put in the time so you leave all your options open.
  12. Sorry about the twisted keel but good plan on replacing it. Seems to have been a lot of that going around lately in kits. A good foundation will pay off later.
  13. Always loved the look of Unicorn. Will be interested to see your rendition of her. Smooth sailing, mate !
  14. Yes Ben, I managed to used the basswood, kit supplied piece. Wasn't easy and not done perfectly but should be ok. It's really fragile.
