  1. Ed, I admire your mindset in that you repost the complete log of the building of Naiad. Since I've followed you since the early beginning of this log in the old MSW I kind of know how much you've put into this. Hats off!
  2. I read that Fredrik Henrik af Chapman had his model chamber set up with full time model builders some where 1770-1780. In Sweden he was the "founder" of the navy's model collection. A few models did however exist before that, but he organized it and made it a job to be an employed model builder. On one of the models the plate states it was built by a 2nd lieutenant and a sail maker in 1793. I have not researched any further.
  3. Hi Sinan! Looks like you're off to a good start there. 1:72 vs 1:48, you don't make it too easy on yourself with that scale on the other hand, some details can be left off. At 1:48 I guess one wants to put in as much details as possible but at 1:72, some things can be "forgotten".
  4. Looks like you're slowly on the go there Joss. Thanks for posting your progress. Inspirational. And take your time with the plans. I think its worth it in the end (or beginning, depends on preference, planning or building...)
  5. I could really use that left-hand workbench (being a leftie myself) but I am soo used working right-handed so I dont mind anymore. Still astounded by your build Mark. Its just, wow
  6. Ar u calling me names? Mr "I can build a boat that's named as candy"...Sir??? :D
  7. Pictures John, eyh? Well, here are a couple. How about that for being a teaser... Oh, sorry, must have missed the object slightly... Oops, that was a bit out of focus, but at least it is a good close-up of a cloth peg Sorry guys..
  8. Patience man, patience! What's another day or two, when I've put up this for +20 YEARS Want to get it right, y'no...
  9. So, work continues slowly with the dingy. Current state is that the garboards are on. And the next strake under way. But no pictures of that. Here is at least a picture of the backbone and the rudder. So you get something for checking up this post
  10. Haha! You know what? Your scratched capstan looks much better than the supplied one! Good to see work done without a mill also..often you think you need a mill to get things right. You have proven otherwise
  11. Hi there Dave, glad you found your way back Looks like you will be finished in time for the sailing season
  12. Hello Garward, and good to see you back at MSW 2.0! A big Thank You for re-posting a lot of your pictures. This is such a great log, since you share all your small devices that simplifies tedious tasks.
  13. Apart from the ship I like your rustic looking kitchen table About the ship, coming along nicely there Per.
  14. Thanks Alfons! I have a couple (or three) up my sleeve... The fun thing is, I was made an offer last night, but I have no more information at the moment, so stay tuned
  15. Great, another longboat perfect, since I am scratch building the ships boat for my build. Thanks for re-posting your work Toni!
  16. Ben, thank you for this picture tutorial of the longboat. Exactly what I was looking for! Both your builds look smashing, to say the least
  17. Glad to see this build log back also!
  18. Splendid stand Daniel! One might think that you are the brain behind the new Cutty Sark display....
  19. Full scratch popeye I don't trust the supplied wood after 20 years on shelf...
  20. It takes a special kind of mind to redo so much stuff of the kit...and I like it. A "Hip hip, hooray" for you Daniel!
