I'm sorry to read of all the stress that you and your family have been through. I'm glad that things are improving. Another small project might be one of Chuck Passaro's Syren Ship Model Company's open boats. The Medway's longboat has a modest amount of rigging for you to get your teeth into.

Newbie paint questions...
druxey replied to CPDDET's topic in Painting, finishing and weathering products and techniques
Apart from all the good advice above, sand down the poly, or you will have adhesion issues later on, if not sooner. -
Well done to get through your first build successfully. A great learning experience for you, I'm sure.

Outstanding result using Gallery Glass, Gary! I was not aware of this material or the uses it can be put to. Very impressive.

Interesting method of seizing in the deadeyes to the shrouds! Doing this in place makes good sense. Lovely work as usual, Kortes.

Great model to recall great stories with! Thanks for sharing this adventure with us, Andy. Swallows and Amazons for ever!

Nice looking cleats! Dark brown thread would, in my opinion, look better than black on the model. (It is the color of Stockholm or pine tar used for marine work, not coal tar).

Alfred is a bit earlier than Steel, is it not? That might account for variance in dimensions.

Lovely work on those tricky timbers, Marsalv.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
