I like your reasoning. I'll try it instead of saying "I'm old and my brain is full".

What always got me was the guard when attacked by the bad guys, always managed to shoot accurately and hit one or two of them. I was tough to hit anything from a helicopter but I can't imagine hitting anything firing from a stagecoach trying to outrun the baddies. Maybe my problem was I wasn't John Wayne?

Welcome to MSW, John. I'd suggest you start a log on whichever model you wish to build or finish. It's a great way to met others and also to get advice.

Like Keith, not sure on thumbs up for fixing the issue or a sad face because of the problem that happened. I do think you'll be happier with the improved legs.

I've got the Domanoff and while it works, it takes a bit to get it working right. I've not done anything to show as I was just testing it. Reports are the Syren works well and is very reasonably priced.

Any other Glowforge laser cutter/etcher users?
mtaylor replied to Tim Holt's topic in 3D-Printing and Laser-Cutting.
I did that myself intentionally for my Belle Poule carvings. They're so tiny that the char was leaving next to nothing to carve. -
French 8 and 12 Pound Gun Carriages - Laser
mtaylor posted a topic in 3D-Printing and Laser-Cutting.
I don't have much "generic" for the laser. Most is for a specific ship. These are 1:64 but can be scaled as needed and in CorelDraw format. Cannon Carriages.cdr -
Any other Glowforge laser cutter/etcher users?
mtaylor replied to Tim Holt's topic in 3D-Printing and Laser-Cutting.
I'm not a Glowforge user but I do have a laser. I've found the slow and low seems to work best though there are happy spots with high speeds and higher power. Also, after firing up the laser and before trying to cut, I run a test piece of the same wood and thickness through just cutting some straight lines and dial in from there. As for multiple passes, I don't recommend them as a laser isn't an entirely straight cut. If you look close, it's a "V" and the "V" gets wider with the more passes one makes. The times I've had where the laser didn't cut all the way through I've been able to salvage the part with a scroll saw and a very thin blade. Depending on the laser and the amount of use, I find it wise to check the mirrors for smoke residue. Periodically, they do need re-aligning which again depends on use. -
David, do a search in the kit area for Mary Rose. There should be some logs. There's also this area that might help you find some. And do open a log of your own.

That will probably work best. Acrylic really has no odor to speak up so you just want to keep the 'dust' from getting to the rest of the apartment/house.

You can also use a curling iron. With just about any tool used for bending that involves heat, you'll still need to hold it in place. I prefer the heat method using a curling iron, a hair dryer or heat gun. For hair dryer/heat gun I use a piece of scrap wood with pins stuck in it to the shape I need. Go here and see post #2. Near the bottom is a video on how to do it. https://modelshipworld.com/forum/18-modeling-tools-and-workshop-equipment/

I use a sheet of plywood that fits my window with a dryer hose attached to vent outside. Hole in the plywood for the hose and mounting piece. True it connects to my laser but when I my one plastic build, I did the small spray booth thing with a small cheap fan to suck the air from the box and blow it down the dryer hose to vent out side. When I was done, the box I used for the spray booth hit the trash, the hose and window wood back to the laser and fan... well it's nice to have in work shop to move some air around. Lots of ways to skin that cat, so to speak. Just need to find the one that works for you.

You mention the bed going out of level during use. I know zip about this tech but for the bed level.... what sets the level? Screws? I'd assume (or at least hope) the was some locking method like lock nuts or similar.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
