  1. Nice work on the model Hamilton. And congrats and well done on sorting out how to get around and overcome the injury.
  2. I wonder if that "hatch" was permanently closed? Maybe smoke vent for the galley? It is in a bad place for using it as human passageway. It could also be possibly for passing the anchor ropes below deck.
  3. She looks great and from the sound of it, you've learned a lot and had some fun along the way.
  4. Thanks, Glen. I did have a lot of help and input from Jerry Todd who built an RC version. When you're ready, I'll be glad to watch and help. I love the way you did the sails. They don't hide the deck, etc.
  5. Wow. I'm surprised and also find the use fascinating. On the Google image search there was bunch of hits with both names along with and sometimes just the different manufacturers.
  6. Monfeld's book has a lot of good basic information. It's not perfect though. As for the Constellation.... I'll be interested in seeing what you decide. The kit is not the actual frigate but what sat in Baltimore's harbor Long story short... the Baltimore group lied and AL (as well as visitors) bought the lie. It was actually the sloop of war from 1854 (the last all wood ship of the USN). See the links in my signature. Both a build and a gallery of the kit bashed to Sloop of War. But, even if you build it straight from the box, it makes a great model.
  7. It appears to me to be some sort of tool kit. Other than that... I'm at a loss. Forget what I said... per Google image search it's Steam Engine Tester. https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/11894889_steam-engine-tester-by-american-steam-gauge-co
  8. I would think that any lanterns, etc. would have been extinguished so as not to backlight the men at the windows. There most likely would have enough light coming for them to see enough to move around, reload, etc.
  9. Welcome to MSW, Glen.
  10. Looking forward to this, OC. As for the positioning, I'm thinking the museum did that because of the "low" ceiling.
  11. Sorry for the confusion. Bashing a kit is simply make parts on your own to improve the model or adding things to improve it. We won't get into percussive adjustments with a hammer. LOL.
  12. Welcome to MSW, Glen. I see the hallmarks of a kit basher and potential scratch builder at work on your ship. Looking good. You might want to go the new member area and make a new member post. Bob gave some good advice on the planking tutorials. As for your comment to Bob, basically all kits need some scratch work or have something missing/not right. The only thing I can add is have fun with models.
  13. The 400 was my favorite also. There were 4 bolt main kits (well worth the cost) as it only came in 2 bolt mains. I heard the factory did have some 4 bolt mains but never saw one. If you wanted to irritate some people or just blow minds, put a set of 327 valve covers on it. LOL... fun times. There were a lot of things about the 400 that drove many racers nuts. It was a sintered block and not a cast one and the sistered cylinders. But yes.. talk about torque.... wow.
  14. That looks like one of the ones I have. If you'll pull the inserts out, you should see different size openings on each end. Pretty neat way to give you 4 sizes with only two inserts. Anyway, match the bit to the proper hole, it should be good fit, not loose.
  15. Ed, a photo would help. Are the shafts of the three bits all the same size? On many of those tools, there's different size chucks to insert into the handle for different size bits.
  16. They did have some designs which involved taking off the large wheels on a "land carriage" along with the trail. Smallish guns for this but still took manpower and time to unship and use on land.
  17. Christian, this forum is an English language forum. Could please use Google Translate or one of the other translators? Thank you.
  18. From the description, I wonder if it was just a design exercise?
  19. Occre is good and there are many Occre builds here at MSW. Looking forward your modified build.
  20. Your Bounty came out well. As for your question about the cabin and furniture, etc.... That's a question you'll need to answer for yourself. Some would try it, some wouldn't.
  21. Looks good and don't feel bad about the "oh rats" moment, Steven. We all have them and usually a red mark on our face from the facepalm.
