  1. Can you tell us some of the threads?
  2. Look on the bright side, at least you found out before you started the Soleil Royale. When you're ready to start your learning process, be sure to start a log on the project (or projects) as it's a great way to get help and meet other builders.
  3. Alan, it would be tough to prove you wrong. I've read "The Billy Ruffian" several times and noticed that in the historical artwork presented, she had different "looks", armaments, and carvings. It would be tough to pin one version down as being the "definitive" look.
  4. Beautiful work that is a joy to see. Really hard to believe this is from card.
  5. That is a fascinating video, Michael. Nothing but hand tools and one man building.
  6. Sounds like a good plan for the troop disposition, OC. As for your face during the "ooo crap"... I can well imagine as I've done that also.
  7. They do make IF digital readout thermometers. I wonder if that would help let you check different parts of the bed to see how close the temperatures are at various points.
  8. I'm glad you recovered OC. Accidents can really blow a project but you've done a great recovery.
  9. I've heard that some line their bed with aluminum foil for easy cleaning. Not sure myself as it's reflective.
  10. No worries on the pear, Chris. Just wondering out loud. What? Model shipbuilding isn't a cult? I'm shocked... shocked I tell you.
  11. I agree, looks great. As for issues.... I have yet to see a build log that didn't run into issues and that they all can be solved.
  12. Star Trek and R2D2????? Is there a video or build photos ?
  13. Quick question for you, Chris. By pear wood, I'm assuming (bad move on my part to assume) that this not Swiss pear (pinkish) but unSwissed pear which is more "woody" colored? I've been reading the instructions and making notes.... maybe a bit of a bash (maybe some ebony or individual deck planks) but not much.
  14. I'd say go for it when you're ready. I've been following the log and it makes a beautiful model. I'm kinda' feeling iffy about my current scratch log and am thinking that this kit will get me back on the right path.
  15. Trigger pulled.... order made. I think this build will be good for me... I will do a build log once it's here.
  16. Joe, go to the post. Up in the upper right hand corner are 3 dots (...) Click on it and menu will open. You can edit the post (replace the MP4 with a link or delete the whole post.
  17. Beautiful planes, Chris. They look very graceful. BTW, here's a reminder... no more 2-for-1 builds.... unless you change your mind of course.
  18. As kid, I remember very well the sonic booms over head. We lived just south of Wright Pat AFB, in Dayton. Part of the good about living there was in the 50's a lot of aircraft were being flown in for the museum. They also had a lot of aircraft coming and going that were being tested. The other part was the fighter squadron (long since gone) that seemed to everything as a group including loud flyovers while breaking the sound barrier.
  19. It's not a problem as OC says. I took a look and just had a "wow" moment.
  20. I have my fingers crossed that things settle down in the world with this virus. Having a surgery being put on hold is not fun and probably more stressful than going through the procedure. I had a call from my surgeon today to cancel the Monday appointment. Hospital is full up and they even using the recovery rooms as wards. The other factor was my sinuses are in the pits with all the smoke filling our valley and coughing (which I've been doing lot of) isn't good for a heart procedure involving catheters.
  21. I do what Ben suggests.... a good stone and strop. After every few cuts, I strop. I use both Xacto and surgical blades.
  22. This is sooooo tempting me especially at the scale it is. I guess I'll have to spend some serious time looking at the budget. I'd love to have an English ship in the display area.
  23. You may have to do the photos separately. Delete them from the doc, upload the doc, then upload the photos and insert them in the proper place.
  24. Mr. Mac was a character and not at all like today's CEO's. Treated everyone like family and not like some peon who needed a flogging daily.
  25. I've printed silkspan with a color printer (ink jet, NOT a laser). Tape the silkspan to sheet of regular paper and then feed it through. With care, you can print both sides.
