Welcome to MSW, Eurus. I can't add much to Allan's post except be sure to enjoy the journey.

Welcome to MSW, Joseph. Don't forget the most important thing... have some fun and enjoy the voyage.

Well... I think the Arms of France are about done. Needs some tweeking on the left side still but for now, I'm putting it away to work on some planking and hope my eyes uncross. At a "normal" viewing distance it looks pretty good considering it's size. Still have more carvings but.... need a break. I may decide to re-do the carvings later on once I've have my mind cleared as there are some things I think I could do better and I need to stop comparing them to the 1:48 scale work I've found on line.

HOF, I would like to suggest you open a build log on your Bismarck in the kit area. It really wouldn't be appropriate to put your model into a review of another company's model.

Welcome to MSW, Icksa. Do start a log on the Terror as it's a great way to get feedback and help.

Just speculation here... If the figurehead was the "spirit" of the ship (the guide, etc.) would have been possible that these were removed before any of the ships were buried? Possibly burned, reused, or similar? Where's that Wayback Machine? We need a road...err.. time trip.

Soaking plank
mtaylor replied to zamboknee's topic in Building, Framing, Planking and plating a ships hull and deck
I do much like Allan. Soak for maybe 30 minutes and then I generally use a curling iron to heat and bend. I also use the soak and hair dryer method. If you need a curling iron or hair dryer, buy one new, give it to the admiral and take her old one. Need to keep the admiral happy. -
The ship modeling imps/gods/whatever are really messing with you. They hide it and then bring it back. It's great you found it.

Congratulations on solving the engineering issues and still having it look great. I do have a question... I"m assuming that tanks are being flooded to sink? What is used to bring the ship up.... compressed air supply?

Gluing deck planking
mtaylor replied to Don Case's topic in Building, Framing, Planking and plating a ships hull and deck
I too do what Jim does. Just seems more secure to me. -
I'm in also. I'll leave the popcorn supply in Kevin's hands and just sit back and enjoy this.

Very well done, Greg. Looks like she's been out at sea for a long while and needs to head home for some rework and refit.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
