Welcome to MSW. Questions are always good. When asking, put the questions into the appropriate sub-forum in this area: https://modelshipworld.com/forum/12-shop-notes-ship-modeling-tips-techniques-and-research/ You'll get more "eyes" seeing it there than here.

Welcome to MSW. Hope you'll start a build log when you're ready.

Do we need to start a 'grumpy old man' topic in Shore Leave? Meantime, back to the Mikasa and what gets done next.

Looking good and no worries on the time frame. With this hobby, builds always go over estimates because life has a way of tossing our schedules into the dumpster.

Look in the tools area. A quick search will get you much information.

Looking good, Brian. Just curious, as it's not mentioned or in your title... what scale will this be. I've followed the few (very few it seems) builds of this ship and also read Dr. Crisman's thesis on this ship which was not only the battle but the archaeology work on the wreck. -
For dental bits, look in Ebay. Sometime ago a bought a box of them of various shapes and sizes for little money. Another good alternative is talk to your dentist. Most will be happy give away their used ones.

Welcome to MSW, Mart. Give some thought to starting a log anyway. We have lots of long term builds because life gets in the way.

Welcome to MSW, Antony. Life is a sometimes strange voyage and end up at places where we once were. Modelbuilding is one of those places. I hope you'll start a build log when you're ready.

At least they're getting to do "hands on" research. Given the costs and probable fragility it probably won't ever be raised and preserved.

No worries, mog. Looking closer, I see the difference. The copper looks red to me from here. Sorry about that.

Jeff, Make it easy on yourself to post. Type in your text, drop down to the bottom and your photos. Then post it all at once.

Welcome aboard, Chuck. There's a couple of ways of finding your gallery..... One is when you upload it, create a link as part of your signature. This is probably the best as others will see it on your posts and probably visit you gallery. Another is to use the search function... upper right hand side of any page... and select Gallery with the name (yours or the name of the ship as the search words.

Anytime, John. I'm happy to help. As for "sir".... I'm not an officer but enlisted so you don't have to call me sir.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
