Just amazing and wonderful work, Piet. Your details are breathing life into this model. And just now I noticed the markings on the telegraphs.

There's no mistakes unless you're talking about that bit of a ding above the sheave axle hole in the second pic. Looks great on the ship.

I took a picture just check everything... things need trimming up front and some cleanup but there's no rush until I get the beakhead deck and bulkhead installed in the future and get test for fit, etc. Oh..looks like it needs more sanding.. I think the expression is "pfffffff".

Great fix that no one but you and about 9,000 of us here MSW will ever know. The last pics look great.

Thanks for the kind words everyone and the "likes". I finished the starboard side and it looks good to my eyes also. And more importantly, both sides match when looking straight on. Thanks Grant, err... Sgt. Schultz. I've come to the conclusion that we are our own worst enemies as well as critics. Thanks for that Augie. I'm not going to guarantee it's right but I did what seemed to work. The shipyard is sometimes a lonely place.

You can point out the problem... I see none. But this still deserves a "wow!!!".- 324 replies

I'm building using the Hahn method also. Attached some pics of the two main tools I used for setting the frames on the buildboard.

Bob and John, I think you'll find that the fastest and best way to get help is to open a build log. If you look at the logs, you'll see what I mean. We're all modelers here and everyone is willing to help if they can.

That makes two of us. I'm learning as I go. I just wish learning wasn't so hard at times.

It could be that we all are quite "mad". Or at least a little crazy.- 4,152 replies

Done... on the port side at least. I'll finish up the starboard side and then attack the quarterdeck outer bulwarks. Thank heavens they're not as radically shaped. I do, however, really hate macro as I see some things that need fixing before final sanding, like a few gaps in the planking.
-
Pat, I'm not going to hit "like"... I'm glad that the only damage was to the jib boom as Russ said, it could have been much worse.

John, Have a look through the scratch area. There's a few French 74's that have been built or are underway. As for the ANCRE plans, I have the Bonhomme Richard monograph and I've seen the works by others around here that use their plans. You really can't go wrong with them. As I recall, the shipping for the monograph I got wasn't that bad. Thanks for the kind words on my Licorne.

I'm sitting and agreeing with Augie. It's a pity they don't make them like that anymore.

Nice work Danny. For the crowns, if you don't want to carve, find the King from a chess set of the appropriate size. One king would give you two half-crowns.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
