  1. If you cover the plans (after getting them glued down and allowing the glue to cure), do what it says: flat coat them. You can then paint over the lines without any color bleeding through.
  2. As far as I know, those plans and books are only available new on the ANCRE site. We have no plans of a French 74 on MSW.
  3. I just didn't really realize how big that beast was until the last photo. Looking good, Kevin. Both you and the ship.
  4. Looks dead on. So much so, that comparing the real thing with your build is tough indeed to tell the difference.
  5. Sweet work, Grant. They look perfect in place.
  6. Gary, I use a Dremel with a stone for grinding my lathe tools. No need for a bench grinder and no place to store one either.
  7. I have to learn to stop re-inventing the wheel. There was reason why Hahn did it the way he did it. I've scrapped out all previous methods and did his way. First, I spiled a piece of cherry (2 feet wide X 4 inches thick). Then made Mr. Clamp to get the curve. I soaked the wood for about 12 hours and clamped into place. I ended up with all the curves and bends in the right places. I can live with this. Now to go glue them in place and get the ebony trim fitted and fixed into place.
  8. No problem.. I don't have the stash, but come by anyway. We'll share a beverage.
  9. Ask away, by all means. There is NO SUCH THING as a SILLY or STUPID QUESTION!!!!!!!!!!
  10. Excellent cleats Grant and a nice tutorial for those of us watching from the peanut gallery. Did someone mention a stash of English Box?
  11. To quote someone you know very well..."Mistakes? Pfffftttt!!!" Looking great Anja.
  12. Beyond incredible baskets, Wefalck. The details and care you're putting to this is spectacular.
  13. It looks to be your choice on the companionway and hatches. Some paint that deck area black and then put on the furniture. Others go ahead and cut it out. BTW, I see you quoted Chesty Puller.
  14. European models better over-all???? Er.... some are, some aren't. Depends on your definition of "better". There some who's kits are pure works of fiction. Some with crappy wood, some with crappy instructions, and some with crappy castings. Depends on the kit and manufacturer. What I suggest is find the ship that interests you. Then compare the manufacturer's offerings. Also, take into consideration what's important: quality of wood, fittings, etc.? Instructions? Plans? Amount of scratchbuilding required? In short, every kit will have it's issues and what suits your needs will not necessarily be what someone else's are.
  15. Hmm... ModelExpo and Bluejacket come to mind. Those you'd have to order but they are US companies. Maybe one of the group from up there could point you to a local hobby shop with a selection?
  16. Massimo, Can you show us a picture? Maybe it's just me but I'm a bit confused about the ruler part.
  17. Daniel, Safe your money and fire extinquisher. Try bicarbonate of soda... aka baking soda.
  18. I think I'll join the merry band of watchers. Looks to be interesting. <grabs chair and some popcorn>
  19. Scott, I'm sorry to hear about your Dad. A beautiful job you are doing on this ship and a fitting tribute that you're going to continue. I'd like to suggest that open a log in the kit area as this really more for questions and reviews.
  20. Red, Have a look here: http://modelshipworld.com/index.php?/topic/4865-18th-century-longboat-question/
  21. Sweet, Vince. Looks fantastic. I hope you have a display case for her as she deserves one.
