  1. I'm building using the Hahn method also. Attached some pics of the two main tools I used for setting the frames on the buildboard.
  2. Thanks Massimo. Those pictures made it very clear. What a great method.
  3. Bob and John, I think you'll find that the fastest and best way to get help is to open a build log. If you look at the logs, you'll see what I mean. We're all modelers here and everyone is willing to help if they can.
  4. That makes two of us. I'm learning as I go. I just wish learning wasn't so hard at times.
  5. I wasn't aware of that. Wonderful place, MSW, we get lessons in Dutch from an Aussie.
  6. It could be that we all are quite "mad". Or at least a little crazy.
  7. Thanks John and Daniel and those who "liked". Daniel, Trust me.. they are there.
  8. Done... on the port side at least. I'll finish up the starboard side and then attack the quarterdeck outer bulwarks. Thank heavens they're not as radically shaped. I do, however, really hate macro as I see some things that need fixing before final sanding, like a few gaps in the planking.
  9. Pat, I'm not going to hit "like"... I'm glad that the only damage was to the jib boom as Russ said, it could have been much worse.
  10. Those "ramin" strips in the kits may or may not be true ramin. Some of the kit makers have used a wood different from what they call it.
  11. John, Have a look through the scratch area. There's a few French 74's that have been built or are underway. As for the ANCRE plans, I have the Bonhomme Richard monograph and I've seen the works by others around here that use their plans. You really can't go wrong with them. As I recall, the shipping for the monograph I got wasn't that bad. Thanks for the kind words on my Licorne.
  12. I'm sitting and agreeing with Augie. It's a pity they don't make them like that anymore.
  13. Nice work Danny. For the crowns, if you don't want to carve, find the King from a chess set of the appropriate size. One king would give you two half-crowns.
  14. I guess then that one should not use a vacuum pump but a vacuum cleaner? Less vacuum that way? I've got a vacuum pump and am thinking about casting.
  15. If you'll go to the Kits area, there's 5-6 Billings Bluenose builds going on. Those along with Russ's link should help you.
  16. If you cover the plans (after getting them glued down and allowing the glue to cure), do what it says: flat coat them. You can then paint over the lines without any color bleeding through.
  17. As far as I know, those plans and books are only available new on the ANCRE site. We have no plans of a French 74 on MSW.
  18. I just didn't really realize how big that beast was until the last photo. Looking good, Kevin. Both you and the ship.
  19. Looks dead on. So much so, that comparing the real thing with your build is tough indeed to tell the difference.
  20. Sweet work, Grant. They look perfect in place.
  21. Gary, I use a Dremel with a stone for grinding my lathe tools. No need for a bench grinder and no place to store one either.
  22. I have to learn to stop re-inventing the wheel. There was reason why Hahn did it the way he did it. I've scrapped out all previous methods and did his way. First, I spiled a piece of cherry (2 feet wide X 4 inches thick). Then made Mr. Clamp to get the curve. I soaked the wood for about 12 hours and clamped into place. I ended up with all the curves and bends in the right places. I can live with this. Now to go glue them in place and get the ebony trim fitted and fixed into place.
