Hi Piet, Michael, Bob, Nils, Dennis, Mark, Matija and Elia Many, many thanks and all the best for 2015!

Thanks Michael and everyone. Your comments are greatly appreciated. Michael, the watch is a Swiss Watch that I own....another expensive hobby of mine. This particular watch is one of my favourites because it was a surprise gift from my wife a few years back. It's an Omega Seamaster Regatta chronograph which, as a professional diver's watch, is fully water resistant to 300 m, or 900 feet underwater....not that I even take it in the bath tub! All the best for 2015!

Hi Hartmut What a fantastic job your're doing on what's shaping up to be a very beautiful ship. I especially love the choice of wood for the hull, as well as the carvings you're doing. Keep up the great work. All the best!

Hi Popeye. Looks like you're going to have your hands full for quite a while! However....Don't worry about being overloaded with the modelling projects...what a nice predicament to be in. All the best for 2015

Lextin, your flag looks really good! I particularly like (others may disagree), that the colours are but more subdued. To my mind, it makes the flag look as if it's been out in the weather for a long period of time and, hence, weathered and more realistic. As for your sails, I've got no doubt that they'll look great as well, once the templates issue is sorted. All the best for 2015.

HMS Naiad 1797 by albert - FINISHED - 1/48
Omega1234 replied to albert's topic in - Build logs for subjects built 1751 - 1800
Clean. Crisp. Precise and masterful!!! What more can I say.....except, beautiful. -
Hi all Mystic now has a bit more detail added. These include the props and rudders (which still require final shaping, sanding and painting). A spotlight on the wheelhouse roof adjacent to the radar mast has been added. On the fore of the superstructure, two Dorade air vents have been added; whilst the finishing of the mast, davit and rigging are progressing well. Mystic's hull has also been painted, as has the dinghy's hull. The dinghy still requires finessing and finishing off, eg fixing up the seat boards and sanding/painting of the hull. Hope you enjoy the photos! Merry Xmas and all the best for 2015!

Hi Alan One of the greatest joys I get of our hobby is the satisfaction of admiring what can be achieved from a lump of wood and sundry raw materials. From such materials are produced objects of beauty and loads of memories. Nowhere is this exemplified more than in the rough shaped hull that you were given and how you've transformed it into this beautiful ship. Congratulations! She's a beauty.

Totally understood, Mike. That sounds pretty typical of teenagers the world over!

Marvellous work, Piet! Love the rudder and all the detail work that went into it. Have a great Christmas and 2015. All the best.

Hi Mike I think you're being too modest. That's quite an achievement for a 12 year old to put together, especially cutting the planks! I wish I'd kept more of my models from my childhood....oh well. Are you tempted to finish her?

Longboat by Rao A.L.G. - FINISHED
Omega1234 replied to Rao A.L.G.'s topic in - Build logs for subjects built 1751 - 1800
Hi Rao. What a beauty! Your boat is packed full of fine details and loads of character and charm. You deserve to be very proud of what you've achieved. Have a great Christmas and New Year! -
Hi Popeye, Michael, Mick, Nils, Piet and all those who hit the Like button. Greatly appreciated. Popeye. I must admit to liking Matchbox toys when I was a kid, so, that's a great compliment. Thanks! Piet and Mick...oars??? Don't give me any more ideas, please! Michael....yes, it's tiny, but to be honest, I think a bigger (yet still miniature) hull would have allowed more detail to be added. At least, I've proven to myself that I can build such a small model, whilst still making it look reasonably presentable. Nils - I'll still need to build a display stand for my model of Ingomar...however once that's done and Mystic is finished, I'll then be able to commence on my Symphony model (pls see the link in my signature block). That should be lots of fun. All the best everyone!

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
