Thank goodness for our site - gives us something to take our minds off normal life/weather and health, I can understand your pain with the ribs - I broke my rear transom framework some time back, the hull planking has come together nicely, its one of the "hold your breath" stages I think. Keep up the good work she is coming on great. OC.

Very tidy work - the rear planks blending into the rudder post look real great, and the white lower paint contrasts well with the wood, Great Wormanship. OC.

Today was paint day, I decided to change the paint scheme slightly - this is the pre paint stage the french blue paints on in a semi gloss finish, this will be tamed to a matt or satin-matt finish. Here's a couple of pics. OC.

Am I reading the comments corect - about the difference in the width of the top of the stem compared to the bottom where it merges into the keel, the rudder post does a similar thing, I guess it was constructed this way to keep a natural tapering for streamlining yet still maintain some strength at the keel. OC.

Us builders do so suffer the same fate - "Its going well - going well - Damn why cant I do that bit, thats it I give up" but somehow we find that secomd wind and manage it, those little spring clips are so usefull and can be turned around to use the bendy bits aswel, did you get the tiny clips or larger ones? OC.

I fill my planking gaps the same way as mentioned - with my hull planks I sanded down one whole plank on a sheet of fairly rough sandpaper, then collected it in a small glass, then applied a small amount of pva glue to the gap and dipped my finger in the sawdust and rubbed it into the gap, but before set I lightly wet my finger and smoothed over the gap. Then afer a couple of hours I sanded over the gap and repeated if needed. OC.

Hiya folks hope all are well, Last time I posted I was working on the keel, well I have constructed some box work to tidy up the keel, as it really got a battering from all the hull building and sanding, I have also started planking the stem with individual planks, most of this will be hidden with paint, but It will reinforce it and give it appropriate dimensions. Here's the pics. OC.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
