did you always intend to complete the build when you did or was that the prospect of rigging force your hand?

its taken 7 years so far, and so many times i have felt like abandoning her, and at times packing up modelling altogether, i quess it comes down the things i want to achieve and things i am actually able to do, and to me they are to far apart, but here i am still at it, and yes i look at things and want to rip them out but as i get nearer to the end, the things that bothered are long covered over, and lol no one will ever see her anyway

well i completed the fore mast lower yard truss pendants, and feel i have got away with it, deck blocks also forgotten, but dont appear on the plans anyway rigging them lines into position not the best phot but the yard is quite tight against the mast a large amount of lines have now been secured into position and secured, so looks a lot tidier,

i was gutted when i found out, as i had pinned all the yards to keep them in position, i realised when i was putting the leech lines in and thought, what stops the real spars from moving forward it is doable and i have now completed 2 of the 3 on the fore mast, But i am definitely suffering from not sticking to a plan and forgetting where i was over such a long term build,

So far into the build, just as I am getting very tight for space, and today I realized I have not fitted any truss pendants or parrals to any of the spars, %^%*%%%

lovely work have a look at Gill middletons build, i love the way he approached his sequence of rigging, the Longbridge book is essential IMHO i have started my build so many times i dont know where i started rigging first, and no where good enough to give advice i would point out that the bowspirit is going to be a real pain for now as it tends to hit everything

coming to the end of my 1/72 build of the Victory, and i was asked a question about it on another site, "how did 18th century sailors know what rigging went where" subject to the masters fine tuning, if two identical ship were built would each line go in the same position and tied off at the same point how were young sailors taught this as i quess very few could read so basically he is asking how would a young sailor know what rope to handle if told to do a specific job

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
