Have you tried to obtain some decent plans, from the likes of the company that built her possibly the uprights were changed over time, loads of steel triangles certainly add to top weight, and nothing would show lumber holes, to allow water to pass through, Certainly dont compare it to my builds, lol thats a recipe for disaster sorry about the water ingress

i had the same issue of inserting all the sheaths above the gunports, and then securing the lanyards, it took me weeks, then i did them all again, because i i got better it showed up on the earlier ones, hence i vowed never to do another first rate again and then what happens, Chris Watton, is designing new ships, so maybe there will be another one in the distant future, after the St Nectan

Good evening Mike, i just popped over to see how you are getting along, have you tried to pins the spars into position, it makes life so much easier, so that when it comes to truss pendants and jeers and parrels it is easier to get the tension right, i wont spoil your log with photos but will post on mine is you so wish,

Are you referring to the stun booms, if so i just left them as there is enough to snag on with-out them in the way, plus some of the lines tend to run along the spar, so another thought of mine was, as they are movable, i should be able to put them on at a later date

Good evening everyone, im still here, although compared to a couple of years ago, my post contribution towards the site has dropped considerably, for which i am sorry but unable to do much about, i so miss the banter i used to get involved in, and getting involved in other people builds, anyway the main mast is complete with the exception of the stun booms but that is complete as per the Caldercraft plans, im sure there is more when i compare it to the Longbridge plans, the spars on the mizzen have been secured to the mast, and hopefully rigged by the end of Jan

did you always intend to complete the build when you did or was that the prospect of rigging force your hand?

its taken 7 years so far, and so many times i have felt like abandoning her, and at times packing up modelling altogether, i quess it comes down the things i want to achieve and things i am actually able to do, and to me they are to far apart, but here i am still at it, and yes i look at things and want to rip them out but as i get nearer to the end, the things that bothered are long covered over, and lol no one will ever see her anyway

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
