  1. I installed the two part deck after the poop deck and cant remember it being difficult or awkward, but it may be easier the other way round....remember the belay rack which is underneath the quarter deck.
  2. it was always my intention to have the guns run out but because of the breaks i took whilst building bellona and the removal of the planking due to fading of the wood i had to use the gun ports as an alternative because the damage to the frames was too great and to be honest i just did not have the patience to do a complete rebuild of the frames......I actually like the cast gun ports, they provide an eye catching detail. The offer is still there if you decide to use them.......free of charge of course.
  3. cheers Bill....that is the ultimate compliment.....as i have said before it is full of mistakes, down right rubbish craftsmanship in parts, but it is also full of character which i think adds to the build. I dont like a perfect looking build....they look too sterile and no soul contained in them. My Bellona contains anger, frustration, angst, and contentment and that is why I love the finished article....enjoy your Bellona...it is a fabulous looking kit...
  4. sorry for not replying sooner.....i got the ports from cornwall model boats.....i have lots of spares here if you want them..not sure how many but yours if you want them.......i used the ports on bellona as a way of not smashing the boat up as the build was going badly wrong and it was a case of using the ports or binning the model....i think they look ok and are a contrast to the rest of the hull...
  5. give it another go Thunder.......not touched it since christmas but starting on rigging again this week...
  6. hi from the UK........post a few pics of your build if you feel you can....
  7. looks like a good start....there was nothing missing from my corel Bellona...as for the bearding line....i did one on mine and was very careful.....untill i dropped Bellona and snapped the bow off....see pics on my build log......
  8. Tomorrow marks the 40th anniversary of the lifeboat Solomon Browne's courageous attempt to save the crew of the Union Star which had engine failure and was drifting towards rocks off the Cornish coast. All crew members perished in a brave attempt. Coxswain Trevelyan Richards refused two members of the same family aboard such was the difficult nature of the sea. RIP brave men, your memory lives on.
  9. i am a bit of an enigma really Chief,....I served with the Parachute Regiment, a unit not noted for our patience, and also for one who spent a few years in and jumping out of aeroplanes why i should build boats which our arch rivals the royal marines use.....ask my family how patient i am and they will tell you "not very", so it is with some surprise to myself that i reach the end of a model.....i try to look at the big picture nowadays and try to keep calm......a good drop of single malt whisky does always help.....have a good Christmas Chief...
  10. Cheers BobG.....like i said to Old Collingwood, they are full of mistakes and down right rubbish, but they look ok...but mostly I enjoyed building them which what it is all about......although Bellona came within a hairs width of being launched against the wall...
  11. never in a million years has my workplace been that tidy, nor is it ever likely to be...😀

  13. have a look at minicraft on ebay.......no longer produced new but always available......i have several and they are superb.....variable speed transformers mean you can slow down or speed up using one power adjustment...
  14. ooops just caught the flagstaff which will need refitting, no big deal.....will have to start corels endeavor whilst doing the rigging.
