First timer introduction and needing some advice

Tjenare Stuka och välkommen till Model Ship World. Hi Stuka and welcome to Model Ship World. I would suggest Sherbourne from Vanguard for two reason, good customer service but also you can download the manual prior buying the kit. This way you will have some pre-knowledge of what you are getting into. The kits of Mr. Watton are at very high quality. Polaris is at a good starting level as well. And does have instructional videos on their website. If I were in your shoes I would go for Sherbourne. However that is my opinion. Good luck with your choice because they are both good. Hälsningar -
Jay, that hull turned out to be very beautiful. Well done!

Eric, I just found your Black Hawk kit, it has a reasonable price. A half hull kit where the frames are done! I like it, it should be a fairly quick build. Check this one out.

I have to admit I have been in the same seat as well, handed down three RC yachts worth more than 5000 dollars plus several wood kits.
-
Eric, you certainly have done a good catch! I took the liberty of a rough calculation of the total cost for the kits, which is USD 1177 to 1452, based whether if America is the 1/8 scale (lower price) or the 1/4 scale (higher price). I couldn't find any price information for the SH04 Hannah nor the North Eastern Black Hawk half hull. The 50 books have a great value as well.

I beg your pardon, I'm afraid you have the advantage of me...

Hmm, thank you for acknowledging this. Because I am equally bad.... or worse, my shipyard is at stand still.

Michael, your skill with brass is outstanding. If I could accomplish a fraction of what you are doing, I would be happy with my result. -
No plastic model is perfect, even with the latest technology. Toni, I bow my head to you for overcoming these issues. Getting paint correct is another problem all of us are having hard time with.

Toni, you are amazing - taking on one project after another. Mentioning projects, I should go back to mine.......🙃

I am using two chairs, an adjustable office chair for seating a regular table height, and a tall for the workbench also adjustable. The tall one I bought at Staples only used as a display model. -

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
