After some time in hiatus, I got my dear T37 back in the water some weeks ago. However, when sailing with others I noticed my yacht started to get sluggish with the maneuvers. When I got her back to the pier, I saw how low she was sitting in the water. And yes, I am glad I got her back in time. There was a good quarter inch of water inside of her. Fortunate no electrical equipment got damaged. So I have her back in the shop ripping some deck planks which was in need of replacement. New material has been ordered. Removing epoxy glued parts is a pain and when sanding a good mask is in need. She will also get new sails.

Michael, I like that you are approaching Vasa as she was seen in Stockholm when coming out of the water. I have walked her deck back in the early 70's and at that time she was still very much without any paint. Last time I saw was in 2012, at the new museum (there is a new museum to be built for her) and a lot had changed. Best of luck with your model, I never finished my Airfix model.

Welcome back! It's important that we let our bodies to heal, I know exactly how it is.

A friend of mine built the MS Longboat and had a heck of a time with planking. When Chuck released his bigger version and with prespiled plan. He said this made it easier but was a challenge for him. For me, I have no issues with regular planks. One disadvantage with prespiled is if you break one by mistake....... then what?

Here is a radar I found online, Scale wise it looks right. My concern is the platform the radar is sitting on. One single rod will not hold the radar in place, they need a triangular leg or attached to a mast, a setup to be stable in weather. All radar installation I did in early 80's had that setup.

I have some of Vanda-Lay items, and they are good. However, when it comes to newer Dremel units they won't fit good this as the holes are meant for round shaped drills. I overtighten one and damaged the Dremel, luckily I had an old Sears/Craftsman drill that fitted perfect.

Looking at the uploaded videos I would say with 99% certainty the models are done by a woman. Amazing skills take a look at the diorama video of USS Arizona. The hands are giving it away.

New workshop in the garage.
Nirvana replied to John Murray's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
Roger, I truly like that you found that item. I have looked into it myself and will place my order, they even have special bags for rifles. They have an extensive and various kind of anti-corrosion products. -
New workshop in the garage.
Nirvana replied to John Murray's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
John, some of our members are not spoiled with large workshops as a matter of fact many are working in small spaces. Insulation is the key! Keeping the moisture at even level. I am spoiled having a huge space, but hardly get any build done due to that. However, even though living in the Northern West Pacific, the humidy has not done any changes to my wood, so far....... For me having this great space is not good, as I have to insulate everything from concrete base to rooftop, all the cost! I do have remodeling plans down and ready to go. All my best to you. -
Alan, your ship is coming along really nice. Wish I had come far with mine.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
