  1. So here is the rhetorical question: How important is that the white balance is perfect when taking pictures of their models for our members? More important: Is the viewer monitor set properly? How do you know? - Probably not! This is me: I use dual monitor with my computer - one is an Asus the other a HP, when set to same all settings - my screens are showing details and different colors. Both running same resolution/frame rate/ color and from one and the same video card and using same type of output! Take your picture being out-door with clouded sealing will create the best scenario without any hard shadow or highlight. Many pro-photographers of cars and other models has been doing it this way. Even better having a grey/white cloth hanging over the photographer along with the model to create an almost balanced light. There are so many aspects to consider in this matter. So, bottom line the white balance in the digital age can be thrown out - still today a proper white balance reference card set beside with the "model", is needed to will create the right setting. As for us here at MSW, take your pictures and upload the one you are most happy with - it's not a competition. If the white balance is slightly off, I don't care - it's the details of your model that is more interesting.
  2. Simple question without any critics: Are you building Smith Rotterdam to be a R/C ship? If yes, epoxy and cloth is the way to go. Building for display - forget epoxy! It's too much work. When I built my T37 R/C yacht I applied one thin single layer coat epoxy of West Marine product. The auto primer was applied twice along with 10 layers of paint before 2 coats of clear coats. The surface should be clear. If white - the ratio is off.
  3. Michael, .... humph and cough.... 😄 darn, you are good! And your eye for crafting is amazing! A warm welcome to MSW from PNW. I am one waiting for something incredible to come out from you, feel no pressure......😃 Again, warm welcome and Happy Ending to this year and Happy New "ship modeling "Year!
  4. Only two component paint would withstand the 2000 grit paper. As previous members wrote, with acrylic paint from Vallejo/Tamiya and others sanding can remove a lot of paint. Besides do test runs before applying your desire to your model. We have all been there, with a lot of work afterwards. I know you will find your solution.
  5. Hej Håkan, I didn't realize you had Atlantica going as a new project. The three ships SXK has are very interesting ships with amazing history. I like to thank you for the link regarding the usage of software to create plans to build a ship from. I hope more people will find this useful. Finally, I hope you are doing well with your recovery. As a side-step, we got our share of snow yesterday about 5 inches..... Gott Nytt År (I was about to write Happy Ending in Swedish as well, but that would be a bad combination) 😇 Sköt om dig!
  6. Something to put in "your pipe" When creating the case and having stub mast, let the mast touch the upper part of the case. Have seen this type of displaying and it looks real good.
  7. From another location in the PNW a warm welcome to ModelShipWorld.
  8. Looking good though, just consider each strake as a single project has helped me getting through tricky planking.
  9. I will quote this as a memory.......😆 Nice recovery though and I love this "small build log". Thanks for having your fingers in the picture at post #26, it really gave a sense of how small it is, unless you have giant hands.......😁
  10. I bought four kits directly from a polish manufacturer for same numbers of Swedish naval ships. Currently not available from any other! Time of waiting was almost none to get it delivered. But yes, I see how easy it is to create "IP theft and infringement" in this category. All you need is a scanner and a printer. Unfortunately, way too easy! I don't understand why people want to go the cheap way. The plans may not have been scanned 100% accurately, just to save you a few lousy dollars to get away with something you will know it's not from the right manufacturer. Integrity and personal honesty will bottom down. Once you have ordered a "stolen item" from an online dealer, you are complicit. And you will do it again. You will become a felon! I sleep better knowing I have ordered my kits and items from the right source, just to pay slightly more for the item. Just used "two cents" of cost posting this input.......😃 that is my pure inspiration and writing. Do I need to copy(w)right this input as well..... lol
  11. Thank you Lou, I have started to look into the FlySky system, but I might stay with the Spektrum brand (I have a Spektrum DX5e older version) even though it's way more expensive.
  12. Trying to get the electronics in place. It is not easy, the cables for the switches on the ESC had to be extended. The servo cable as well, but that was easier. I still haven't decided on the Tx/Rx brand. I ordered a system from HobbyKing but was on backorder until late February. So, I canceled the order. Any ideas of other systems are welcome.
  13. Some small updates about Äran, I have got more of the electronic set up. Getting the right connections isn't easy. However now it is coming down to switches and locations on upper deck. Have created longer wire extensions for this purpose. Motors are in place, batteries charged!
  14. Kurt, set up a virtual background and you don't have to worry about a messy shop.....
  15. To answer the 35T vs 80T change; The 35T will provide slightly higher rpm than the 80T, with the small propeller it will give a better "kick" to get moving. This will be direct drive no gearbox involved.
  16. Love my Byrnes table-saw but need to learn more how to use it properly and safe. Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend live but looking forward to the recorded session. Thank you for setting this up!
  17. Another program to consider which also can be found as a free version is Sketchup, can do 2point and 3point radius.
