Actually not. It's a cherry wood. I wanted to use Boxwood but was unable to find where to buy Uk. I am not well chosen other materials. Maybe someone can suggest some wood can be used for frames?.

Posted (edited)

Here's a topic in the wood discussion that might help with wood in the UK...   http://modelshipworld.com/index.php/topic/6502-uk-timber-suppliers/  The first one listed (twigfolly.com) seems to have become a dead link.  However, the replacement site is:  http://modelshipworld.com/index.php/topic/384-where-to-buy-wood/?p=399613

Cherry works well also as I'm using it on my Licorne build.   Others also use maple or pear.    But perhaps that link above will be a help.

At the moment that's all. I started working at the tree nails for frames.

But I wanted to ask. Are there any direct information about that?

In looking at the work of others. It seems that everyone is doing it differently.

P.S.

Sorry for my English. Because I do so just learning, as ship modeling :)

Hi.

Maybe someone can help with information?

I would like to understand what would be the right way of set filling / spacer block?

Are there any exact dimensions for them?

Or need them at all? Because other projects it is not at all.

Great job!

Treenails... I like using the same wood as the frames, in your case cherry. A drawplate can be used to make them.

Spacer blocks.... are you thinking between the frames near the top? I think they are a good idea as they make the structure sturdier.

Thanks Chad.

Talking about treenails .I just wanted to know if there are any specific dimensions where they need to bee located. How many  their really are on frame?

In any case it is too late. Because I decided to improvise. :)

Then next project i will found out how to do it more  correctly.

Yup. About set filling / spacer block i think that on the component between frames. Do they also have any specific dimensions and sizes where they need to bee located? Did real ships had them If not is it necessary to use them?

Hello everyone.

Decided to slightly update my work.

I made Tree nails for frames

Clean all the paper. And recommendation of using Fixo gum glue had perfect.

Before assembling cut out recess for gun ports.

And finally start assembling frames.

I slightly redesigned Gun port sill. To create more stringent joint.

At the moment it would all.

But to be continued.

Nice work mate

I'm probably not going to live long enough to build all these but I'm BLOODY going to try HAHAHA.

Future Builds: The Schooner Bluenose, scale 1:48, POF Scratch Build (Gene Bodnar practicum - Plans from modelshipbuilder.com)

HMS Victory, scale 1:64 or 1:48, POF Scratch Build (John McKay's plans)

Current Builds: 42ft Longboat Armed for War 1834, scale 1:36 POF Scratch Build (Plans from A.N.C.R.E.)

Galley Washington 1776, scale 1:48, POF Scratch Build (NRG's Plans)

Ragusian Carrack, scale 1:59, POB kit (MarisStella)

HMS Snake 1797, 18 Gun Sloop of War, scale 1:64, POB Kit (Jotika/CalderCraft)

Current Build: Stage Coach 1848, scale 1:10, Kit (Artesania Latina) Shhh don't tell the Admins I'm building this I'll hide it here ^under this line^ so they don't see it HAHAHA.

Looks good. The redesign of the gun port sills is not necessary. The joints are very stable. If you want to make the joints stronger, you can use some tree nails

Yes, nice progress! I like your method of holding the frames to the keel.

Thank you all.
Now I want to start hull planking.

But just do not understand one thing.

So from the outside. Many model makers form joints between planks. I think if you look horizontally.Which in my opinion would be correct.

But it is with the inside? Here, I look at the other built models. All planks make a full-length.

Do not also be the joints?

Please someone suggest that it is more appropriate.

P.S. And once again I apologize for my English. I try as I can:)

There are some Triton builds with the planking showing joins inside. Some even show the anchor stock planking that is even more correct at particular levels. I don't know if there is an online diagram showing this, but the following is the illustration from David Antscherl's book The Fully Framed Model. I would recommend this book if you want to make future similar models, if you can afford it.

Apart from the planking on the upper deck, it's hard to see the planking on the remaining decks unless you light it up. So only you are likely to notice joints between the ceiling or inner planks unless you leave the frames fully exposed without planking on the other side.

Hello all again.

Still I wanted to ask.

When I look at the other cross section models. There is also the added middle mast. As an example ChadB. For me it seems a great idea.

But where could I find more details?

Of the mast and the "walls" around him.

Part can be understood from the full-Build drawings.

But if it were possible that maybe someone can suggest something.

Hi.

I add a little progress from my model.

I glued the first top plank to hold together all frames. And cuts off all frames in the right-size.

IMG_2195.thumb.jpg.e27e51303c612df716b4f1d5655d66dc.jpg

And only then start sanding  inside of hull.

IMG_2196.jpg.e062ced495fa9cce2ed28d76e5a5435b.jpg

Step by step I stars planking.

First planks I made a slightly curved. To keep straight part in bottom of inside hull. As well pre drill holes in keelson for hold pillar.

DSC_6931.jpg.df26224c8796db9d9445fbb45e771228.jpg

Next I made a couple of clams for planking. To make future work easier.

DSC_6776.jpg.a774befa1d50e438cdade4ce3a0598c7.jpg

It works pretty well.

DSC_6938.thumb.jpg.0c96cbb51258f8d47b479617f6631e61.jpg

Cut out limber board in right shape. And cut it by small parts.

Then folded again all together and drill holes between.

DSC_6949.jpg.393f39c78591596c03dd10f85eae9517.jpg

By individual pieces I glued it In place. I leave only place for pump room.

DSC_6994.jpg.faac2bbca20b93739d2c6c0a6d90236f.jpg

It's all for the moment.

I hope so will have more free time to keep going.:)

Ainars,

I'm not sure of the question.  The full-build has the plans for those parts (mast, etc.).   Are you needing a reference book?  I'd suggest using the full build plans and for the details just reference the build photos where those parts are added.

Nice work.

I, too, thought about adding the mast, well and shot locker, but the cross section plans for the decks have been modified from the full build and won't work.  This project was designed as an intro to scratch building, so necessarily simplified.

Thanks Mtaylor for the reply.

I just looking for example more information about pump room measurements.  Of course I can also copy other build models. That I think are going to do.

Because I can not find it in full-build plans:(

Of course A good option would be a kind of reference book.

Maybe you can recommend something...

One of the best book series is in my opinion the Swan Class series from David Antscherl and Greg Herbert. For the details you want to build have a look in the original drawings at the NMM. I don't have my copy of the Triton drawings with me.

This book also for my recommended Tony.  But I can't  to find it this book in the uk:(  But I guess I have no choice.

And I have to order it from the US. Simple it is a bit expensive shipping +tax.

In any case I should look in Sea Watch books ?

There are no taxes on the books into the EU or UK at the moment (while the UK is still in the EU). It's just the shipping that's expensive. I asked one of my relatives to bring the books over with him from the USA when he was visiting. If you're visiting or based in London you can PM me and you could visit to see the books in my home.
