Well just look at that..over past 2 years have built Artesania Latina's Mississippi steamboat and chinese Junk. I am now awaiting delivery of Mantua's Victory 1:98 since

I wanted a more challenging and lengthy project, now I'm gaining more confidence.(They were my first two model boat attempts).

Thought I'd look to see if anyone had posted experiences of the build and straight away found your log. I will no doubt be looking at this regularly once I've started for

guidance and inspiration when the going gets tough..because I know sometimes it does!

Great that you have taken time and trouble to create the log...will surely help others..such as me along the way.

Now semi-retired so have more time for such things.

Regards

Grandpa Phil 2  !

We have proof of concept!

One of the many things that I hate about this kit is that there are no inner decks and thus nothing to secure the gunport lid rigging to.  I drilled the holes and glued the rigging thread in.  After it set up, I tied off to the eyebolts.

Richard,

Thank you!  I’m not going to lie, the first dozen or so were a little annoying until I got the methodology and the rhythm down.  After that, they went pretty smoothly.

My big lesson learned is that it is better to make your own eyebolts and not to buy plastic ones.

Seriously though, CD when you get around to coppering your Victory, let me know.

I learned all sorts of valuable lessons between the Victory’s hull and the Prince de Neufchatel’s.

The first is that if you decide to use copper tape, use new copper tape that sticks well.

I used old copper tape that I found on sale for the Victory, it took me about 30-40 hours to copper it.  The tape didn’t stick well and I had to reinforce it with glue.

I used new copper tape from an electrical supply house for the Prince de Neufchatel.  It took me about 4 hours to copper the hull.  Peel and stick with a little bit of fabrication involved.

I am a newbie but I was wondering if you use stained glass copper tape for the copper plating. It comes in various widths-not sure what width might be better.

I am enjoying reading all of these posts and am fascinated by your work.

And now for something completely different!

A 54mm British Infantry Officer from the American War of Independence (AWI):

I think it’s a Call To Arms figure, but I’m not really sure.

I’m a little out of practice, but I think it came out okay.

It just needs some flock around the base after all paint dries.

I am not sure how you made it but it shows talent with more than ships.

I’m glad you liked the British officer.  I very much enjoy painting figures every now and again.

I’m about two-thirds done with the gunport lids on the starboard side.

Next up, I need to make the channels so I can figure out where the mouldings will go.

More with that later.

Starboard side is done.  All 78 gunport lids are rigged.

Next up: channels

This is because those are my remaining functional fittings and I need them in place to adapt the locations for everything else on the sides.

Thank you everyone for all the likes!

I’m glad you like the build!

I finished cutting out the starboard channels.

I still need to drill holes for the eyebolts and they all need painted prior to installation, but I have them sitting in their approximate spots so I can check fit and that they won’t interfere with the gunports.

They will be pinned in place, in addition to being glued, for strength.

I have channels on the port side!

The rest are painted and almost ready to install.

I am pinning them to the hull.  This means that I am using steel pins (sewing pins) to reinforce the glue so the channels do not buckle under the stress of rigging.
