Its some plane  the TSR2  its massive when you stand next to it  - yet such a tiny wingspan.

I should have included the US SR-71 in that group of fascinating aircraft.

A couple of decades ago, visited an air museum at Warner Robbins, Georgia. Outside in the weather (taking a beating by the weather by the way) was an SR-71 on display. HUGE aircraft, all black. So sad to see an historic aircraft like that sitting out in the weather, not under hangar.

It still amazes me an aircraft that fast, that could fly that high, was designed and built close to 60 years ago! It's no wonder people claim to see strange things, unidentified things, in the sky. No telling what is out there in the sky we don't know about.

Yep me too   Aurora  - Black Manta   etc    and the TR3 (Poss  Blackbird replacement)    I  once went with a  group of aircraft spotters to a  UK mil base  Mildenhall   as two  Blackbirds were stationed there then,  we camped out in a field under the runway hoping to see one of the aircraft depart,   we never did as they were kept hid away in there hangars.

Ran into a few delays on the Arado. The canopy is a real pain in the rear. Every section of it is a clear multi-piece unit that must be assembled. That leads to a challenge to use a glue that won't fog the clear and at the same time, gives enough holding power to achieve the proper angles on the side plates. Not fun, and one of the few aircraft models I've built with this kind of canopy molding arrangement.

As you can see, there is a gap problem at the front of the clear windscreen that I will have to work some magic to repair without fogging the glass.

Swastikas are not supplied with Revell Germany kits. Furnished by aftermarket set acquired separately.

That is not so strange: swastika's are strictly forbidden in Germany, no matter what you need them for.

Yes, I was aware of that, and this has been the case as far back as I can recall.

I have also always had a love for the YF/SR along with the U-2. There is something about a jet powered glider and a plane that is faster than a bullet in level flight. As a by-the-way, my ex-brother in law used to work on the SRs and had a few stories. I suspect you may have little idea of just how fast they really were.

 

A number of years ago here in Everett where they restore the aircraft used at the Boeing Museum, they used to have, (and may still have for all I know) a nose section of a SR that had crashed. It was just the cockpit and nose, no wings or engines. They had it mounted on a scaffolding and said that they took it around to different shows and allowed kids and others to sit in it and take pictures and stuff. As back then the tours of the restoration hanger was a one-on-one experience, my kids and I got to sit in it and somewhere around here I have the pictures, (No digital back then).  They also have a YF12A in the Seattle location, almost the same.

So here is what I did to make a quick repair of that nasty little gap at the front of the windscreen. I used Vallejo plastic putty to fill the gap. It's an acrylic resin binder with finely ground marble powder. This is the type of putty/repair this particular product is best suited to handle. 

 

 

Fill in the gap

 

 

Use a paint brush wetted with water to smooth out the putty.

 

 

When the putty dries, give it a brushed on coat of Mr Surfacer. I used 500 grade in this instance.

 

 

After the Mr Surfacer dries, give it another brushed on coat of your surface color and bamm!...it's done.

Thats a great repair  - I remember always having the same problem with kits of Harriers  - with thier fron screen.

If it wasn't for the fact this canopy was multi piece, I would have checked the fit to fuselage much sooner. Being this late in the building process made it more of a pain in the rear.

Nice repair, OC.    I'd heard that Germany doesn't permit swastika's.  Do they provide something else like maybe the black "iron" cross from WWI?

In this particular kit, the only thing provided is the 'white circle' where the swastika goes down on the painted red band. Normally, they provide nothing to replace the swastika. 

Some companies who sell their products in Germany have gotten around the law by providing decal pieces that when placed in the proper orientation will represent a swastika but on their own are just odd shapes. Revell Germany won't even do that.

most kit will include the swastika.........it's in pieces that have to be put together on the plane.  serious pain in the butt     if you have some of the older kits,  you may find them.......I believe they were banned around the mid 70's.  I don't believe I've seen a kit with the iron cross,  but you can go online and find it.........copy the image and print your own decals.   I do that for a lot of my odd ball decals.   sorry i'm late to your tour.....I had to go lay down after I saw all your kits!   I recently built the Chezooom corvair funny car......love the aircraft carrier and the bombers!  now I know where all the gassers have gone!  I almost bought the four engine dragster the other week....settled on the sox & martin instead.  the Orange crate is an old kit......don't see that one around very often.......   my stash pales in comparison

Some rigging, a few more decals, and this one is done.

Will probably enter this model in the box stock category as nothing can be added except decals and this is completely stock from the box (with the exception of aftermarket swastika).

I am seriously considering this as my next project. Except I want to do an ocean scene/diorama and this will be my first foray into 'open water modeling'. I've watched plenty of videos on it, so maybe it's time to take that plunge.

 

The Revell kit seems pretty good. At 1:144 scale, it's not too big (like the 1:72 model), but big enough to see some detail.

 

 

I've got the Griffon Models update set for it:

 

 

It has quite a few photo etch sheets and a nice aluminum torpedo for a reloading scene at sea as per the box top.

I have that same kit only without the added PE. It looks like it is a really nice looking model right out of the box. I bought it as a companion for my type IX, (That I like better than the type VII) and my Trumpeter Gato's.

 

I agree, it will make a killer diorama even though if you make the seas as rough as in the picture I doubt you will want to have the hull open loading torpedoes! Have you considered an underwater diorama with the snorkel and periscopes up?

I agree with you on loading that torpedo in rough seas. But I was hoping you will do the diorama underwater with the periscopes and snorkel up. Mine is going to be in rough seas. 😎
