Hi folks

Well, I’ve been a bit impatient lately and started on my next model, Sapphire, before my previous model, Genesis is completely finished.

Anyhow, Sapphire is based on an actual mega-yacht called, Okto (https://www.yachtcharterfleet.com/luxury-charter-yacht-43054/okto-yacht-charter-printable.pdf).

As is customary with all of my miniature models, the interior accomodation will be fully detailed and viewable through removable decks and superstructure.

I hope you can join me on Sapphire’s journey.

Cheers.

Patrick

Excellent, I am joining in Patrick. How do you shape the hull, I presume there are no lines available. The superstructure may be visible in photos but not the hull which seem to have complex chines.

Hi Vaddoc

Uggg...I wish I had access to the drawings of the hull lines, but all I’m ever able to get is what’s on the Internet.  Therefore, I’m left with no other option but to look at photos and do a lot of guess work and, in the case of Genesis, I benefited from a little bit of extra help from one of our MSW friends who is a naval architect and was able to guide me.  Apart from that, I just go by the rule -‘if it looks good, then it must be good😊’.

Have a great weekend.

Cheers

Hi folks. Here’s the next update on Sapphire’s construction journey. My main goal for the past couple of weeks has been to concentrate on building the superstructure and internal decks, so that I can get a real sense of how I’m going to make each deck removable. I’ve still got the top deck to go. As you can see, it all looks really rough and messy; but that’s understandable at this stage. There’s still plenty of work still to go.

Enjoy your weekends!

Cheers

Wow, Patrick, I blink and you’re well along on another boat! I can tell you’ve really dialed in the method of how to build the hull and decks- I remember when you first attempted the lift-out decks rather than cutaway the hull!

The progress is excellent so far, and I agree with your rule of thumb - if the hull looks good, it’s probably good. That’s the nice thing about ‘traditional’ hulls with nice fair lines (as opposed to floating spacecraft ;))

Hi folks. Sapphire’s journey continues. In this update, I’ve managed to do a bit more on shaping the complex curves of the superstructure as well as do some work on the top deck, known as the Sun Deck. Lots of work still to go.

I hope you enjoy this update.

Have a great week.

Cheers

Hi folks.

Thanks for all of your comments and Likes.  Much appreciated.

Well, the shaping and finessing of Sapphire’s superstructure has continued to the point that I can now sit back and actually take stock of how everything fits together. I also now have a far better understanding of how each deck can be removed, in order to view the internal accommodation. Phew! I say. She’s getting there folks.

I hope you enjoy these photos.

Cheers

And off to the races he goes again!! Another amazing miniature ship model already in the makings. I am looking forward to following this one as much as Genesis. By the way, nice job making those two blisters on either side of the bridge. These two power yachts are real beauties.

Much appreciated, as always.  BTW, thanks for calling them 'blisters'.  I couldn't for the life of me think of what they were called, but, yep, you're right, 'blisters' they are.

Enjoy the rest of the week!

Hi folks.

Here’s the latest update on Sapphire. At last, I feel like I’ve got a really good handle on how each deck can be separated and lifted out so that the internal accommodation (once I’ve built it all), can be viewed. In this update, you’ll see a series of photos showing each deck, from the Lower Deck, through to the Sun Deck, lifted out.

I hope you enjoy these photos.

Cheers.
