Sea Harrier FRS.1 by Old Collingwood - FINISHED - Kinetic - 1/48

Just a bit of tools logic  - do you know what makes a great  ca applicator   -  a  piece of fuse wire,   you drop a small pool of ca into a  tub/vessel   then just dab the end of the fuse wire into it  just enough to pick up a small amount then  apply this where you want, just repeate  as needed, its what I do for all things that need controled application.

A wee bit more progress this eve,   firstly  I masked up the front  cockpit galzing unit,   then I glued it in place  - at the same time I fitted the two duct cover/scoops  ontop of the fuselage.

That would work well.  I've been using some sewing pins.  Picked up a box of 1000 many years ago for little money.

Something occured to me  -  I went to all that bother to  clean up Two gaps  on the top  behind the cockpit,  only to find out  they were intentional   for the Two blade aerials to slot into,  "oh well"   I will have to see if I can gently  make the openings  - opened back up again.

Evening all, the issue I spoke about above has noe been rectified  - I didn't have to cut down into them as the putty was hard so I just  added a dab of CA  and sat the aerials  in the glue  - seemed to do the job.

Hi all   "Are you stil there",    I am getting back on this very soon  and giving my  Waterloo figs  a little break,  I have sent off for some more Tamiya Surface Primer  - waiting for it to arrive,    in the mean time I will prep  her  ready  for the primer,  I will  have to  mask up the main  sliding canopy  then temp attach it down possilbly with some blue tack inside the glazing onto the top of the Bang Seat,   then it will be a case of  checking  all over her  before laying down the primer.

Yep.. I'm here, not sure where the others are though.   I've found the grog and am just kicking back waiting.  At least now I can share instead of drinking by myself.

Welcome back  to the pack,   right straight in with the canopy  - the glass unit needed fixing down to the frame after  both had thier edges  cleaning, then using a tooth pic ultra fine tip  - I dipped the end in some revell pro glue  and ran it along the frame and pressed the glass down, then I sat it in place just dry fitting  - its a start.

I have been thinking about doing her as ex falkland vet  XZ-439/2,  the reason behind this particular frame is  - in 1982  just after the falklands war  my late farther saw an add in the paper talking about an airshow at Farnborough  where some ex falklands  harriers were due to be there, anyway after soom pleading by me, my farther took me to the show and  I got to see the Sea Harriers  display there, one of them there was indeed  XZ-439/2.

Here are a couple of pics showing her at the show (the lighter grey one)

Pics not mine they are off the net.

Evening all,  thank you for all the likes and  comments  as always it really makes a difference.

So  on with the build  -  After checking the primer it was nice and dry with a fairly nice finish  so I dug out my top coat  (Tamiya Medium Sea Grey)  - same as the primer  outdoors  and a couple of light coats  waiting about a minute between coats, then  back in the box.

While the shar was drying I rigged up a way of holding both drop tanks  - then outdoors again  and a couple of blasts of primer, then about an hour later  on went the medium sea grey.

Then this evening I checked the main paintwork and it had dryed nice and solid  - so I decided to do a bit of panel lining using my fine draughtsman pencil  (same as I did on both my spit and mossy)  then I de masked the canopy  (its just dry fitted as it will be displayed open).

Not looking too bad I think.

Thank you so much Mike,   I am hoping the panel lines are looking ok with the method I am using  as its very controled with no mess  - just rub off the pencil with the rubber end or damp cloth, the graphite will dull down when I put a flat coat over it later.
