Vlad,

Your deck is off to a good start!

Try sanding the planks to the width with a long flat sanding board or stick rather than cutting or sanding by hand, you’ll get much cleaner seams. And test fit several times before you finally glue down, that way you can make several adjustments. Then once all the planks are glued down give them a nice sand with a small sanding block to take them all down to an even height.

Thanks scrubbyj ,exacty what  im doing with bigger flat board with glued sandpaper on to keep surface even. wood is quite firm.   ill post pics soon . appreciated.

Deck sanded finally. m moving along with things over pear deck....from now on i plan going with natural installations in hull color/ basically french polish over sanded wood. Capstan and columns as well. Maybe no red at all. Best thing i ever did was byuing black wire. I always sgruggled most with blackening wires. It takes time. Still i have to install various things, ladders, etc... Any comments appreciated.

Its coming together.  I am not sure about the pear deck and cherry external planking.  I probably would have stuck to one or the other.  But you are making great progress.

Thank you Chuck. The thing is, hull is baswood varnished by the experimental tone i am not able to mix again same. Thankfully enough  i realised that 2 times applied liberon shellac privides 97 per cent same tone. After hell and nervousness by repaunting captain cabin i decided its no time for color experiments amymore and i could not wait i ask friend to cut upper beams for me ahead of project so i know where to move further as greenwich prototpype became colorwise my natural prototype...and I applied shellac. Those beams will be one of very few i wont purchase / not sure if part of entire chapter but doesnt matter now/  though as i already have those cut. This is what is looks like together with darker pear deck. I must admit if i had realised sooner shellac ca provide hull color, i would have  gone with same as hull but amyway , upper deck will be decision to ask for. If to follow lower deck - pear or going with shellac. But that is future. Even applLying even shellac is tedious work as ut can blilotch quite easily if appying with brush - i dont recommend. Best is i think applying by some moisture absorbing  cloth doing bites to the wood. I am quite satisfied how it turned out and its finally even so it is approved by my eye  sight after taking pics with  mobile phonem what to you think going with those? I think humbly it goes pretty consistent even and suporting overal being same tone ad hull...thst what i wanted. Thanks for any comment etc. Vlad

How IS things Gentlemen?

After spring and pause im back to winnie starting chapter 7. This Has Been on work for some time. As i had already beams cut, i thought that this Will be only chapter i Can make without precious laser cut  pieces..Wellsome of them..and IT Will add to my skill improvement and much more pleasure than laser char removal....besides.. Chuck IS encouraging us fór this approach here and there add well.. i Will see how it goes....decided i Will tackle chapter from scratch, i see raised eyebrows but not in entirety. Doors Will be laser cut. I dont want to spoil winnie so when there are pieces not Up to solid look i Will probably redo. But i Guess center bits are pretty easy stuff, AS Well as collumns . Its far tougher than laser pieces modifying to get approximate result and IT Will never be such beautiful but my winnie IS cripled in many wany ways already. I Will be glad if Chuck IS honest here and if something IS Bad IS Bad. Started with stove - i aimed for effect of copper stove already weathered by many years of smoke. Thanks for watching Advice etc.

Sharp eyes wont Escape to notice Few things are adjusted to as laser minicut IS impossible by hands :) i  regret a bit that upper plates on stove are little smaller than should be not following edges of stove nearer..but IT was hell of a work though :)

Well Well. Few notes. I feel this Will be tough to watch and swallow for  Chuck, i want to say no likes for me folks.

I Can tell im Happy scratch modeling IS over and im looking fwd fór next preciusly laser cut chapter.

Even with laser cut chapter i never imagined chapter 7 8 would be such difficult and demanding. Slow slow IS sure approach. Pumps look so simple but took me entire day even to assemble them together. Knees are slow work to fit and notoriously boeing  fit and sandfit and sand.

I utilized Few very Minor details differently fór the fact to cover some perfectionsor imposibility to make myself in pumps like edges cover with black band. Nothing to like here.  Im ať the fence of thinking Chuck Will exclude me from this workshop :) hope not.

One important mistakes i Made :( silly  of me  i run pump wire trhu Columns, in Rush i started to drill Holes of decorated Columns. By the tíme i realised i have even caps Made ready  IT was too Late. As i watch later it doesnt také away fine impression but i was really pissed...

Regarding first forecastle Beam. I didnt know how to get Column under the Beam so i Worker out Few workarounds. But its not winnie anymore so i Guess i Will scrap IT and move  Columns under beam . First be should be straight clean. Im sure Chuck Will like that correction.

Arrgh...

As cabins walls....yep cartoonish. But i lost balls to try making Windows myself... Especially when i dont have ones laser cut and I destroyed so Many of those. I did best to fit them snugly to walls etc. And i quite like outcome...

.....

Thanks for Patience and probably rather skipping or not watching this "scratch" chapter. But im fine with how it Turned out finally . IT was hard to make those myself by hands.  From next i to fresh with Chucks precious pieces.

Happy new year Folks.

I worked on chapter 9 and 10 preparations over christmass time. I see its sold out already :D but ill wait when Chuck restocked it or maybe even for chapter 10.

My ugly duck Will look different from yours as I decided not to proceed with planking along Wales ! Only in center .  The reason IS i want to leave knees Fully exposed, but i do want to install Few guns on q deck so i Will make very small Partial decks only under two or there guns just underneath IT. ! I have it on papier i Will post the idea.

So far i again sanded knees after installation and finished corner planks , or whatever they are called. I was thinking a lot about how to proceed and im Happy with this decision as beams are natural hull color and deck IS cherry so i sorted IT púť this way and mismatcu would veď to much. This looks mi uniform together I think.  :)

don't understand how you can move so fast...

Oh Frank, even it doesnt seem believe me late chapters are just quicker - believe me - all rpecious tedious work paid off  - stage is set - so you just add bits now to places that were worked very slowly and long long....its  relaxing reward compared to what had to be done under visible coat hull preparation planking etc. I look to it that way. most interestingly, now surprisingly even i do it for myself, for first time lately entire family keep coming to see winnie here and there just saying  wow wow  and asking what will come next . even i still dont have rudder attached  figurehead and stern ornamentals as its nearing beautiful details on the top their interest is immense. I can only imagine visual beauty of finished vessel with chapter 10, bow and blocks installed. its worth patince as  All these chapters with fancy railings  are like putting on jewellery on dressed lady, so its getting better and better each step. credit goes to Chuck with his excellent design and excelently cut material he provides.  monographs navigation etc, to ensure people not having previous experience wont ruin that beauty.

Well. I Worked All spring long. Cj 9 10 and Beyond . And my love -hate relationship with winnie continues. Being naturally impatient, i relaised with scale AS this and even without rig which takes event longer, ship modeling craft IS sort or art like painting. No matter time. Years even. What count IS final outcome or quality.

Change in visual feeling from bare Hull to full form with All deadeyes fancy rail etc IS HUGE. Its worth platience. I was ooh and aah when making stern houses and inner compartments .. etc and after that too many months  long structural timvers floors....All important but  visually boring stuff almost offputting.

I must say its steep learning Curve probably top much fór me unskilled bloke. but ship IS enormous. There was way too long watching at bare Hull. Sort of offputting feeling. Therefore i decided not to wait till autumn and trying to finish her AS soon AS possible with knife and files and sandpapers. After purchased part 9 i commited myself to 10 and Beyond - thinking IT Will be almost impossible. I tried to extract clay for Few stanchions  and thats IT. I miss though Beautiful center rail columns AS i Made myself simple rounded. Well. And Guess what? I observed how those bows are Made in other ships and started IT off  thinking i Will not be ale to cut those by Hand. Sure they are not  complex beauties tusks Its temporatily attached somaybe i Will change them for originals  when available. :)

I Did malé inner fangway already and IT was tough ! You folks have Still a lot of works ahead.i Finally learned how to make proper Cannon.

i Made swivel guns without that handle AS those are brass...Another aaargh. And i tried to make handmade upper capstan - only one though.

binnacle was enormous fun to make with Dremel. And many other things. Like outrt steps although they are from poorer Wood unfortunately.

if someone is making cherry winnie , add Chuck opted fór darker deadeyes I went fór white that complement beautifully with darker Wood. Oh - sure i miss 3 layered Channels but i tried to copy originál obed with black layer on the top. AS only knife cut, they are not such precise though.

I intend to change those wired holding deadeyes AS i had biggest problém make IT beautiful and Neat thinner and straight .and they are top tehij i Guess.  I Will have to buy those Made chains i Guess.

Well, ať this point i miss only statues and figurehead and wheel and lamp and gratings to end.and Few more to finish bow  - you are correct im not going to try to make those. :)Thanks fór watching and comments.

my deadeyes are 5 &7 MM though. Little more covering freezies.

And my pedestal Will be myself Made very old OAK lightly planned so old rustic vibe IS Still  visible with simple brass  nameplate ...now i Can wait Few months for you guys 😀.

Good day Gentlemen.

First thank you for likes, but bow needs proper chapter 12. i was trying to be a way too quick   ... my apology for not replying after half a year. Im about to be modeling over winter evenings usually.

As im nearing rigging American clipper, and waiting for chapeter 12 for winnie,

I am playing with idea of rigging winnie as well.

First, I will probably never ever have chance to build such big Boat in upcoming years... and I assume many from you would Jump into Chucks Next pof  project. As múch As I love read AS you go process and beauty of it, IT will be nôt that mammoth rigging project as winnie but plenty enough for even intermediate modeler.

Im not sure myself in which direction to continue. Just checking if there is any Wish to rig winnie . I know there IS thread to rigging but  i see its quiet  so far.

Truth is, winnie Can be rigged any year so there is no rush. im sure assembling speedwell would occupy folks for few aeqrs. as it should. Peopl usualy build two even three at time and out on hold some projects etc....so no need to play with only one idea.

Hmm decisions  decisions. naybe  im just now not in mood to build another Boat and play with wood. But i know if i see boxwood and feel smell  of yellow cedar I will think differently :) oh chices..decisions :)) or why not doing both slowly? Right. Probably best idea. Well if im among 100 :)) but Chucks way of teaching sold me like nothing in modeling world. His explanations and tutorials are price of two another kits...and safest way to finish it handsomly.

V.

Hi, Vlado,🙂
great improvement.
By the way, I have a question: What did you use to paint the carvings?

Hi Dusan, thanks. It was long time ago but Im sure it was mixture of bitumen paint by rembrandt - its called asphaltum extra oil paint mixed with linen oil...very small drop of paint with oil ...i used almost dry brush technique just  tiny amount on figurehead to take effect...ship wood is french polish - dark flakes  but i will never do it again. will learn wop.
