thanks Sjors.

basically what happened was that a car put on his indicator late which caused the car in front of me to have to brake hard. I was a safe distance behind him and with braking hard (with which I don't mean screeching tears and burning rubber ) a came to a halt about 1 meter behind it at which time the car behind slammed into me pushing me forward. the police say I should have been able to stop at least a car length behind the one in front. well I am not so young anymore and my reaction was probably not as good as it should have been but I came to a halt safely without hitting anything so isn't that safe enough

well I will object to the ticket  when it comes not sure if that will do anything but I can only try

anyway I am ok I have sorted out a replacement car for the time its in repair so all is good :)

Adriann,

Sadly, that ticket seems all too common.  People want blame to laid and the cops have an answer: they write tickets.  I'm liking your posts because you're ok.  Sjors is right about humans and cars.  :)

Adriaan,

Then i'm happy that that police man is not in our area !

Then he can get all the time new ticket books !

When we keep a distance of one car, we have one big ,traffic jam here!

And I received all the time tickets when I'm driving the bus.

A lot of drivers love to "trow' there car in the front of the bus…...

Maybe that's the Dutch stile  :D  :D

thanks Kevin and Mark :)

yup Sjors I am with you on that traffic jams would be twice as worse and so many drivers think the road is all theirs and they can do what they want not realising how they put lives at risk .

sadly it seems most traffic laws are not about safety but about revenue raising.

anyway  I did a bit of building too. almost finished the 3rd deck stateroom

few more wall planks and the window and I am done

That ticket is just plain wrong Adriaan. Here it the US, whoever is last in line gets the blame for all rear end accidents. It is assumed the last person to hit shoves all the rest in line into each other...therefore they cause the damage to the rest of the cars.

I hope you argue vigorously to the judge, and make the point, if there had NOT been a car behind, you would and the car in front of you would have driven away damage free!

Glad to see you back to building as well!

i have had a look at the road rules :

rule number 126 : A driver must drive a sufficient distance behind a vehicle travelling in front of the driver so the driver can, if necessary, stop safely to avoid a collision with the vehicle.

nothing about stopping a car length behind and i stopped safely and avoided the collision so they have no leg to stand on . case closed :)

if they dare to send me it i will even put in a complaint

Hoi Adriaan, glad you are okay, that's paramount.

Seems like an open and shut case you got from the Oz rules.  But then again, there may be a yah but - - - from the judge.

Good luck with the fight.

to hold the next level I am thinking of using magnets. strong enough to hold it in place but still easy to remove if necessary

Hey Adriaan

the statemant " sufficient distance behind a vehicle travelling in front of the driver" indicates movement. If I read correctly you were sitting stopped at a light? Stopped at a light is the key issue here. BTW was there black tire marks on the road where you were pushed and the tires were dragged over the road. This implies you had the brakes applied and were sitting still. Years ago I had this kind of accident and the police officer just ticketed everyone. We fought it and won. I'm not sure how the laws in OZ are compared with the US but if you can fight, you should and your key defense should be that you were at rest when the collision happened. Forward momentum can push many cars together, in my accident 4 were involved and all were at rest except the guy asleep at the wheel at the back. We were hit so hard it damaged the front and back, plus pushed the bed of the truck into the cab of the truck.

Hope this works out for you and doesn't add to your stress to much

I really must get use to this read last unread button, I keep missing following pages, ARGH!

anyway, didn't see the triple stack pic's when I posted. Nice move forward. It'll be nice to see it all assembled and lite up.

@ Robert1965, I agree with Popeye. Think of a log as a way to learn a language in an informal setting. MSW members are very understanding about the language barrier and it helps us all learn so much more as people from differing cultures and countries learn the art of communication. And pictures are the universal language.

Posted

hello Robert

yes don't worry too much about your English I am sure It will be fine :) and there are plenty of Dutch speaking people (including me) on the forum to help :)

Keith no it wasn't at a traffic light but I had stopped a second before the guy hit me from behind. as far as I know no tire marks but I estimate that the speed with which the guy hit me couldn't have been more then 20-30 KMH. anyway I will see if they are going to give the ticket or not because I would have thought they would have done it on the spot

more important some progress on my build

working on assembling more of the stairs. yet again some errors from AL in material which meant I was 2 steps short. used some thicker basswood sanded down.

I did myself make an error. the way I fitted the side posts mean I was using more wood but I didn't realise that over 28 posts this meant almost half one of the 3X3 dowels so now I am short about 7 small posts to finish off the 3rd deck :(

I don't have anything spare from any of the other kits so only option is to use some 1.5x3 strips glued together (if I have spare of those)

yesterday after almost an hour and my hair and back dripping with sweat I managed to bolt the top part down. I hope I never have to take it of again

post-622-0-30033700-1378628981_thumb.jpg

before adding the steering cabin part I need to finish some off the railings

this is how I make them :

first drill a hole in each end off the 14mm long 3x3 part

post-622-0-85428400-1378629020_thumb.jpg

then a thinned toothpick is used to glue the bead to one end. later on the toothpick is cut off and a lick of black paint to finish it off

post-622-0-59405500-1378629027_thumb.jpg

another thinned toothpick is wedged in the other hole and cut off . this will fit in the holes I drilled in the deck for added support

post-622-0-11402700-1378629035_thumb.jpg

making sure the post is straight

and here some of the railing parts glued between the posts

today decided to start on finishing the first deck railings

I also was trying to make sense of this

if you look carefully in the 2 pictures you notice the part with the 8 pieces of wood sticking out  are not the same

in the first they sit against the middle part, in the second they are underneath it
