Hi All

It is good to be back working on the SOS again, but the sad thing is it is just for a week then it is back to doing 10-12 hour shifts a day looking after my mother.

Doing the ratlines, sorry they don't look that good on the photos but they will get better as I go on.

Denis.

Fine workmanship as usual

I liked the fact you used a Clove Hitch.

for Rigging your lines.

Love your work.

Well done

Hi All

I have just started doing the blocks and tackle for the main deck cannons + the coils.

This is the first time I have attempted doing rope coils I hope they look OK,

Hey Denis

Nice work! Looks great!

Did you know this is called a "Flemish Coil" or "Flemish Flake" ? Some refer to it as flaking the lines!

I have knot found the origins of this process but it looks nice. It does have its draw backs in reality. I makes for the lines getting dirty and walked over and can leave coil marks on the decking if left for very long. I think this is usually a temporary solution for dealing with the lines, maybe for show when on parade or something!

As a kid who grew up on boats,. it was always something I liked to do whenever we docked! LOL

Cheers

Steve

Hi All

Just finished of the main deck cannons.

Now just fitted the life boats ( will have to tidy up the supports ie a little sanding and another coat of varnish ).

When that is done I will have to tie them down to the deck.

Denis.

Adding the life boats seems like they were meant to be there. Nice job.

Denis - I like the personalised touch you give the SOS with the buckets, Flemish flakes, Canon Ball positioning and also the lifeboats.

Well done.

Hi Denis, the ship looks beautiful sitting in your home, what feedback are you getting from your admiral. My admiral just says "Oi ! (her pet name for me) shift this thing so that I can get round the table. ;)

the last couple of phots dont do your work justice - lol - i took a split second to work it out, im lucy i dont have to move my build- i would dread being out of the house - especially the amount of time the admiral runs around with the vacuum

Hi All

As I have the sails for the SOS I have decided not to use them.

I have two rolls of calico, so I am going to have ago at making them myself.

Will wash the calico twice first so it will not shrink later on.

Take a pattern of the SOS sails and reduce the larger ones down in size to about 1 third ( as I am furling all the sails you don't need all of the sail area ).

When all are done I will soak them in tea for 4 hours ( that is why you have to wash them to stop the calico from shrinking ).

If it don't work out I still have the SOS sails to fall back on ( you have to have ago don't you ha ha  :D  :D  :(  :(  ).
