Weather got us home eraly so, glue added.

 

Port side i had to file a bit of the planking to make the rabbet wider, but works now.

 

Both sides are at this stage now:

 

I use the HZ Slip to hold everything straight, becuase i havent glued the Prow/Keel/Stempost Lasered Patterns yet.

 

I was actually hoping to get as much of the 2nd Planking done without having to glue them, in case i need to sand and so i dont damage these

On mine I did attach those pieces and then covered them with a heavy masking tape to protect when sanding.       It worked fine.

After careful deliberation i glued in the prow and keel lasered patterns. 

 

 

I'm not brave enough to do that on the Stern post tho, That area might require some Touch-ups still during second planking

Hull planking. 

 

I fitted All the lasered bulwark liners and the 2 precut strakes, then Went ahead with the 2 full length planks which will be below the Wales. 

 

I decided to use very Little raper on those 2 strakes, i like the Look. 

 

 

I use CA glue and i find the planks lie very good without any need for EDGE bending

 

 

Found out another Cheat i like:

 

CA Glue  (as long as it doesnt Stick to the Fingers)

I reaĺly like the Gorilla CA Gel, used it on my last two builds and I plan to use it on the 2nd planking. I had trouble today with the tube version today as it came out in a large splunge at one point and ended up with glue everywhere😤. I have now managed to unstick my fingers from the tube.😂

1st Planking Band Ready on Starboard side and Added Garboard strake, blatantly copying @glennard2523 with his 2-Plank Garboard Strake idea:

 

 

Mu 1st Plank Band consists of 7 Planks, 2 are very lightly tapered, 5 next are tapered to 2.5mm

 

Port side almost the same status

The hull shape is really easy flowing and that pear in connection with CA doesnt need really too much bending (i only add a tiny bit of Edge Bend to avoid Clinkering but dont have to use any tool to ben around the Bow).

 

In hindsight, i should have used CA for the Upper Bulwark liner so i could have avoided those nasty Pinholes (they wont be visible i know, but clamping this with PVA causing warpings was a pain)

Thanks, now have to finish the Same on Port side, then 4 or 5 more planks So the stern will be done until the waterline. 

 

I didnt measure yet, but as per my Initial counts i will need at least 2 more Bands of 7 planks each, will try to do the 2nd Band Properly, the 3rd i will decide when i get to it

Current state of Stern and bow.

 

No tapering at the Stern, 9 Strakes:

 

Bow 8th Strake added without tapering, using an Ancient Technique called "Squeeze it in until it sits":

 

I felt i needed the untapered plank to correct the line for the rest of the planks (and this wont be visible so who cares)

 

Garboard both sides with 3 Strakes done.

It took me 4 weeks to stop procrastrinating and finally finish the 2nd planking:

 

Now onto the next steps:

 

1. add filler in big holes

2. paint all with diluted PVA 

3. Mask off lasered areas

4. Saaaaand

That must be a relief Jacek, the planks seem to be sitting nicely against the stem at the bow, did you have a rabbet to assist the process.

the model comes with a natural rabbet after you do the 1st planking you add the laser-etched thin pieces on the stem and keel - step 155

 

A rabbet is formed by those pieces

Well done! I am a coward and haven’t the bravery enough to show my attempts at the Sphinx…but it is great to see those more adept than me working on this lovely ship.  I have wondered why Chris didn’t copper the hull …. It would have looked even more attractive in the sun … but plating that stern would have proven very difficult.

Thank you all, now i am running into the issue, how to attach the wales, i ran out of CA glue and with PVA the strip warps 

 

I dont really want to make too much pin holes but i get a "clinkering" effect when trying to place it in the position it should be

To ilustrate my problem, this is how the pieces seem to Want to be when lied flush to the hull:

You're wrapping that around a compound curve, and there are small holes to allow you to pin it to the hull while it dries out. Alternatively, you can use elastic bands or tape to hold it around the the hull curve that affects the narrow width of the part while it dries.

I understand But that much? 

 

It seems to me that that those parts should almost be straight otherwise the bottom Lifts off the hull when I try to force it in place. 

 

I will try to re-soak it tomorrow and maybe use an iron to heat it when in place

The main wale does fit as it should, it was trial fitted many times, and had many micro adjustments to the finished production part so it fitted as well as it is going to fit.

 

With so many curves required to fit the hull shape, these parts always look a little odd. But they do fit.
