Thank you OC. I remembered your warning(?) about food creeping in. I think thats a good thing. I'm still thrilled with my hoard hauled back from the UK. Twiglets at last and even Marmite peanuts. Big Peat Whiskey and a belated Christmas pudding - and all the chocolate of course.

Oh the sacrifices we make in pursuit of our hobby. :D   On the serious side, seems everyone comes up with "offbeat" ideas at times for parts.

It's the primary rule of great modelers, whatever works, works...

Not to mention putting ourselves in harms way for our hobby. Think of the cholesterol.

the use of food stuff in modeling has been around........the most common is using rice or long grain seed to simulate fish in netting.   one household {byproduct mostly} is the clear plastic packaging that products come in these days.  it comes in different thicknesses,  and can be found pre molded to fit the purpose.  you've added something else to my list..........thanx! :)

I yam wot I yam!

finished builds:
Billings Nordkap 476 / Billings Cux 87 / Billings Mary Ann / Billings AmericA - reissue
Billings Regina - bashed into the Susan A / Andrea Gail 1:20 - semi scratch w/ Billing instructions
M&M Fun Ship - semi scratch build / Gundalow - scratch build / Jeanne D'Arc - Heller
Phylly C & Denny-Zen - the Lobsie twins - bashed & semi scratch dual build

Billing T78 Norden

in dry dock:
Billing's Gothenborg 1:100 / Billing's Boulogne Etaples 1:20
Billing's Half Moon 1:40 - some scratch required
Revell U.S.S. United States 1:96 - plastic/ wood modified / Academy Titanic 1:400
Trawler Syborn - semi scratch / Holiday Harbor dual build - semi scratch

The use of rice as fish is new to me so thank you for that Denis. I'll try to remember that for when I get my nose out of 1/700 scale.

I think this is about finished. I put a gloss coat on and added the decals then a coat of sandy dust colour lightly applied on the upper surfaces and deepening as it went lower. It doesn't really show against the tanks own colour but it does dull down the markings nicely and makes the tracks look dusty. I haven't added any weathering beyond this. All teh photos I have found show them to be dusty and sandy but not really knocked about.

I used a green board as the background which was a mistake as its messed up the colour balance in the pictures. I'll try again tomorrow with something more neutral.

In the meantime I don't think this needs anything more adding to is.

Thank you very much OC. Flyhawk do such a nice job of things like the guns with hollow barrels. Now where next?

sweet job on the Abrams,  my liege.  the paint looks super!  this goes with what I mentioned to Egilman in what he is trying to achieve.  taking pictures of your tank with the pale green surroundings gave the sandy color a sort of greenish hue.  photographing it again with the sandy color gave it a more neutral hue and brought out the sandy aspects you wanted.   even with what I am trying to do........with the lighting and the surroundings,  photographing Christine......both of them....is making them look pink.

if you were to bring it outside....either on a cement slab of sorts,  or even asphalt,  you would see two things.   the cement would give you the even color you would like to see,  while the asphalt would darken it,  but still give you the sandy look because of the natural lighting.  it would also highlight the darker aspects,  like the treads and the rubber parts of the bogies

in any lighting though,  you did a stellar job :)

Thanks for the kind words Denis. It was another nice Flyhawk kit although my example suffered some warping.

Thank you for the tips regarding getting rid of colour casts. I need to improve my photos including moving to a better camera. This one doesn't like the close up stuff that 1/72 armour and 1/700 naval models seem to need. I'll try some outdoors shots on the next one.

Thanks again

Thank you very much Jav. This was fun to build Flyhawk make very nice 1/72 AFV kits. The secondary weapons are especially nicely detailed on this one.

I have their Tiger left to build
